The Windsor Locks Board of Education expresses its commitment to the goals of career and vocational education outlined by the Connecticut Master Plan for Vocational and Career Education. Career education is that education which is intended to meet career needs at every stage of one’s life. Vocational and education is the acquisition of specific skills and related information required for work and is recognized as a vital component in career education.

Goals outlined by the Master Plan are:

(1) to strengthen the education and development of each individual for a whole and productive life in a free society;

(2) to transform the legal and constitutional obligations for equalizing for all, in career and vocational education, into full reality;

(3) to expand student choices and opportunities in career and vocational preparation;

(4) to adjust school offerings to changing conditions of the economy and to the changing aspirations of youth;

(5) to strengthen the relationship between school, community and work;

(6) to strive toward more efficient and productive use of educational resources.

The Board of Education recognizes that the development and implementation of sound programs in career and vocational education requires the participation of the school staff together with the active support and involvement of representatives of the community.

To provide the school administration with advice on current job needs and on the relevance of courses being offered to meet such needs, a local advisory council shall be established pursuant to Title II of the Education Amendments of 1976, cited as Public Law 94-482. The advisory council shall be composed of members of the school staff and general public, especially of representatives of businesses industry and labor. The development of partnerships among these groups will be promoted for the consistent advancement of this policy.
