From living in a light deprived environment Dumbo Octopi have adapted to be bioluminescent and have developed unique hunting strategies.
The dumbo octopus is one the deepest living octopus species that lives on the bottom or just slightly above the ocean floor at depths of 9800ft to 13000ft and even 23000ft below sea level. They live in a cold habitat featuring bumpy flooring and absence of sunlight.
Dumbo Octopi eat their prey whole, this includes copepods, isopods, bristle worms, and amphipods. A large amount of food they eat is also found around ocean vent ecosystems and floating on ocean currents.
