Lake trout have white leading edges on all its lower fins and light colored spots on a dark background. The body is typically grayish to brownish, with white or nearly white spots, which extend onto the dorsal, adipose, and caudal fins. Coloration is highly variable.
The lake trout is a freshwater char living mainly in lakes in northern North America. Other names for it include mackinaw, namaycush, lake char, touladi, togue, and grey trout. In Lake Superior, it can also be variously known as siscowet, paperbelly and lean.
