Bobcats are aggressive fighters
Different Causes of Death for Bobcats:
Predation - Bobcats are often Apex Predators in their food chains; however, mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, owls, wolves, and humans can be predators to Bobcats.
Sexual Competition- Bobcats are physically aggressive during mating, but this does not typically result in death. Male Bobcats face off in front of females which can result in death for the lesser male.
Diseases- Notoedric Mange is a disease that is deadly to Bobcats. It is a highly contagious parasitic skin disease that eventually proves fatal. It also appears in fox populations and dog populations.
Other Causes- Every year more and more Bobcats are killed by cars when they are crossing roads.
Competition
Bobcats compete within their own species, as has been mentioned, for mates and territory. Bobcats are fiercely competitive. Bobcats also compete with other species. Coyotes specifically compete for Bobcats for the same territory and the same prey (rabbits, rodents, etc.) Ocelots also compete for the same resources as Bobcats. Burmese pythons, a native species to Southeastern Asia and an invasive species to the U.S., pray upon Bobcats at alarming rates, especially in Florida.
