The Longnose Gar is olive brown to green in color, fading to white on underside. They have a torpedo-shaped body, covered in ganoid scales (scales that are covered with dentine.), they have a long needle-like snout nearly three times the length of its head.
Longnose Gar have black spots along their body.
They have 7 fins. 2 pectoral fins close to their gills. 2 pelvic fins at the bottom-middle of their body. An anal fin at the back of their body. A caudal fin (tail) at the back of their body. And a Dorsal fin on the top of their bodies by the tail.
They are, on average, about three feet long and weight about 6.6 lbs.
The largest known Longnose Gar was 6ft long and weighed 55 lbs
