Rainfall: In order to survive, beavers need 2-3' of water year-round
Plants: trees and woody plants, grasses, water lilies, clovers, and cattails
Animals: The wood they chop down provides food and shelter for insects which become food for other species, like salmon. Beaver lodges provide homes for other animals like muskrats, mink, and even river otters
Temperature: fur keeps beavers comfortable in all temperatures, however, beavers will also change their location after some years
Terrain: found near bodies of fresh water like lakes, rivers, and streams
What beavers eat: outer bark, branches, and twigs from trees; grasses; and aquatic vegetation
Special foods: beavers will sometimes eat their feces to gain the undigested nutrients from food
How food is obtained:
Beavers will make water canals to their food source to float the food they found back to their lodges using the water current
Every fall, beavers create an underwater food cache near their lodges to store their stock of winter food supply
How often beavers eat: every day, beavers will often forage for twigs and plants in order to fill their daily energy need. During the summer, they consume 1.5-2kg/day on average and during the winter, they consume 0.9kg/day on average
Continents found: throughout North America from Canada to Northern Mexico (not found in: the Arctic Circle, the Caribbean, Florida, Nevada, and southern California)
Invasive in: Tierra del Fuego (southern Patagonia)
