there are about 34 jaguar subspecies in the world but 8 are very close to extincion. the most common jaguar is 'Panthera onca'
jaguars have been dated all the way back from 800,000 years ago in North America. the jaguars closest relitive is a lion. sicentist don’t really know the ancestors of jaguar, this is called a ghost linege and a lot of big cats fit in this category.
a jaguar weights about 150 to 200 pounds in size, they are 3 to 6 feet long. jaguars are yellow with black spots and they have litte dots in there spots. they live 12 to 15 years in the wild.
there native from north mexico to central and south American. they live in mostly rainforest near rivers like the amazon. the average temperature of Latin America is about 30 degrees celsius, or about 86 degrees fahrenheit. but more down south near the equator it can get up to 10 degrees hotter on average. most jaguars live in or near the amazon rainforest so there is a lot of rain. It can rain up to 300 inches a year and can rain almost everyday. the amazon are filled with moneys, birds, small felins and deer.
jarguar eat moneys, birds, turtles, fish, and deer, they also will eat crocodiles on occasion. jarguars try to save energy so they mostly eat smaller animales but they will kill deer when they have a better chance. jagurs try to eat very 2 to 3 days. they can go about a 5 days without eating with no affect. however jagurs try to eat very day. they can eat up to 50 pounds in one sitting but if they are eating daily they will eat around 20 pounds. to kill they try to bite near the neck after pronouncing from a camouflage area.
The jaguar is a solo animal, it's a predator so it has a lot of hunting area. males tend to go off on there own after they turn 4. when males find other males normally they are competing for females or hunting area's. males and females mostly mate before the wet session, however new finding suggest that they can mate during any session. jaguars don't have any mating rituals but when they want to mae both male and female will roar. there is a 100 days for a gestation period then a female will give birth to around 2 to 4 cubs.
most jaguars delveop very fast when they are born they can weigh up to 3 to 5 pounds but after 2 years a male cub can be 50% or 30 pounds bigger then it's female family member. at 4 years they are fully grown, and jaguars as a species are the larget cat in all of south and north america. Jaguars sexual mature at aroud 4 to 5 for males and females. males are bigger then females by about 30 to 40 pounds.
jaguars are an apex predators so they are at the top of the food chain however sometimes they can be killed by crocodile because of the area's they live in. Wild jaguars don't have any diseases however the death rate for captive jaguars as gone up becuase of intestinal diseases. jaguars don't really have any composition other then different types of indus people.
the juguar is listed from iucn us near threathen which is due to the interment they live in. Jaguars live from mexico all the way down to argentina. this gives them a bigger rang to live in and dose not prohibit them from getting stuck in a interment they due poorly in. however there nummber are still going down historically so it is important to keep a open mind when taiking about jaguars.
