Saugar fish is bronze to olive in color with dark color blotches and has a white belly.Average size for saugers is 11-14 inches and 4.4 pounds.The largest Sauger fish ever recorded was 8 pounds,12 ounces.The saugar is an elongate,cylindrical fish from the perch family with large canine teeth.Saugars have dark spots on their top fin.
They are mostly found in rivers and streams,although they do also live in lakes.Saugar usually hide in deep,murky pools with sandy or muddy bottoms.The water temperature is between 40 degrees and 45 degrees.They prefer cloudy and moving water
Saugar eat zooplankton and insect larvae.Adults also eat fish,leaches and crayfish.
