Description
Yaks are buff animals with short legs, they are also known for long shaggy coats the heavy coats also mean a low heat tolorance, yaks will reach heat exasution at 15 celcus.
Diet
Yaks are herbivores. Their diet consists mainly of grasses, herbs, wild flowers, mosses, tubers, and lichens.
Groups
yaks livie in heards mostly 10-200 but males are likely to to live on there own. herds mostly consist of females and young males.yaks are also known to mate with cows.
Mating
Yaks stay pregnant for over 9 months. they are kno wn to interbreed with cattle. The breeding season reaches its peak in July and August when temperature is at its highest and grass growth at its best. Thereafter, yak oestrous decreases in frequency and stops around November and the female usually gives birth to a single calf, which can walk within 10 minutes of being born. They are weaned at about one year of age.
Development
28 years ars in captivity, 25 years in the wild. It takes up to 6-8 years for a yak in the wild to be full-grown. Naturally they breed in the fall and early winter, and calve about 9 months later in the spring
