CAUSES OF DEATH :
predation : bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, foxes, minks, and dogs. In the bahamas feral pigs can prey on flamingos
sexual competition : pair members can reduce the competition, it all varies non- linearly with age , to attract mates, both males and females participate in elaborate group dances, there can be competition through social hiarchy > this can all cause " sexual dismorphism " which causes smaller eggs
diseases: bacterial diseases, septicemia , salmonella typhimurium, E. coli, klebsiella pneumoniae, and pseudomonas spp
other causes: poisoning, and ingestion of lead shot.
COMPETITION:
inter species - within the species : chilean flamingos
intra species - with other species : some fish species
what are they competing for : Algae and at times enough food in traveling in large flocks ( typically dont have alot of competition )
affect of invasive species : no significant impact
IUCN RATING :
rating : least concerned ( IUCN 3.1 )
population : 260,000- 330,000 mature individuals
population trend : increasing, hence why they are at least concerned for rating
IMPACT OF HUMANS:
what impacts have occured : habitat destruction, breeding, feeding grounds, and human interactions .
potential future impacts : global warming, construction( roads and highways)> which makes the flamingos environment more accessible to people and land predators.)
how long have humans been interacting with flamingo's : forever " ancient of times ", *centuries *'
efforts being made to minimize impacts : increase salt production, aid in conservation of wild populations, offsetting or other investments, and goals of a long term regional conservation strategy
