Social Structure
Lives in pack or solo- Indian rhinos are generally solitary animals so they live alone with the exception is when a mother is taking care
Roles within the community- no roles because they are solitary animals
Male or Female led groups- no male or female led groups
Individuals that make up the group- no indivduals that make up the group because they are on their own
How do they interact with each other- They only come togather when they are mating but other than that they typically aviod eachother.
Reproduction
How often do they mate- Indian Rhinos typically mate every 2-3 years
How many mates do they have- Indian Rhinos are monogamous which means they have one mate at a time
Time of year for mating- They typically mate between december and april
Mating rituals- They have complex mating rituals like vocalizations, physical eye contact, the male usually follows the female.
Number of offspring produces at a time- They produce one offsrping at a time
Any unique characteristics of their mating- males will defend eachother from other makes during mating season and it typically leads to aggresion encounters between the males.
Development
Stages of development- birth- to infancy, a calf is nursed by its mother for up to 2 years, and the adolescense when they start devloping social skills, then adulthood
How old before sexual maturity- they reach sexual maturity at around 6 years old
Activities and environment of stages- During infacy, the calf will spend most of its time nursing and staying close to its mother, as it gets older it will begin to explore its enviorment. Adolscence is a time of increased independence and will spend kess time with their mother, in adulthood the rhino will establish is own territory and will enage in feeding,mating, and defending its own territory.
Differences between males and females- both make and female go through the same thing execpt physcial characteristcs and behavior between male and female.
