DESCRIPTION:
The northern hogsucker's back is dark olive, bronze, red and brown. This fish's belly is a lighter shade ranging from pale yellow to white. Its body has a speckled brown pattern and a lateral line that goes from the nape to the tail fin.
They have large pectoral fins and shorter dorsal fins. Their most notable feature is undoubtedly their extendable mouth. They weight approximately 1/3 to 1 1/2 pounds and are about 8-15 inches long. The world record for the biggest northern hogsucker weighted 1lb and 12oz and was 17 inches long. The species is native to North America.
