The frilled shark is ovoviviparous. This means it is a mix of live-birth and egg-laying birth. The mother possesses embryos that develop inside egg sacks that stay in the mother until ready to hatch. The frilled shark will be ready to hatch once around 40 cm long. Male frilled sharks reach sexual maturity between 1.0-1.2 m in length, and Females reach sexual maturity between 1.3-1.5 m long. The difference between the male and female sharks is the females have a longer midsection, and the pelvic fin is closer to the anal fin.
