Species: R. verrilli
Evolution
They’ve been around more then 500 million years The closest relative are coral anemones The mushroom cap jellyfish doesn’t have any subspecies
description
Size up to 20 inches in diameter Life span is 1 year Weight would be 20-400g .There is no male or female jellyfish They are cnidarian invertebrates distinguished by their mushroom-shaped medusae
Description of habitat
The typical mushroom cap jellyfish habitat comprises mainly gulf, or sometimes inshore areas around the mouth of a bay. It has been observed in abundance along the Gulf of Mexico's coast, in North Carolina, Chesapeake Bay, and New England. The rainfall is not to bad depending on the location.
There are no types of plants but there is kelp, seaweed and types of marine algae.
Constant temperature would be 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Some animals that can be found there are fish, sea turtles, crabs and other jellyfish.
There is no terrain in there immediate habitat but there is where there commonly found and it includes beaches, rocky cliffs and coral reefs.
Distribution
They are commonly found in the coastal regions of countries like japan, china and can be found in the United States. They can also be found in other parts of the Pacific Ocean as well.
This species is not invasive at all
Diet
They feed on a variety of small organisms that they capture using their long tentacles. Also lives off small fish and plankton.
They eat throughout the day and night and they need to consume large amounts of food to main their energy levels. They have a high metabolic rate and requires a constant supply of food to survive.
Social structure
that they do not live in groups or packs. They are typically found swimming alone in the open ocean
They are an important part of the food chain as they are a food source for many large predates like sea turtle and certain species of fish
There are no male or female led groups
They are solo so they don’t interact.
Reproduction
It is little to be known about them mating It’s unclear about them mating but we can assume they mate with multiple partners. There is no specific year date they mate
Development
like other jellyfish species, has a complex life cycle that includes several stages of development. The stages of development of Rhopilema verrilli are as follows Egg, larvae, polyp, ehphyra, adult
It is possible that they react sexual maturity at different ages depending on environmental conditions such as temperature food availability and other factors.
Environmental conditions such as temp and food availability can affect the growth. Warmer water temp may promote faster growth and development while colder temps may slow down growth and delay the onset of sexual maturity
