Bighead carp are a dark olive green color on their backs, with light silver sides and a white stomach. It's scales are very small, and it has no scales on its' head. The eye placement is underneath the midline of its body. The average size is usually 2ft long, the record length is 4ft 9 in, weighing in at 88lb. This fish is invasive.
They were originally found in central and southern China in the 1970's. The temperature ranges anywhere from -4 degrees in the winter to mid 60 degrees in the summer. The most common place to find this fish is in the wide and deep rivers in China (located on the border to Russia).
What they eat all depends on what is available. For the most part, bighead carp will eat zooplankton and algae. They also can consume detritus and small invertebrates when algae is not available.
There are no known predators of the bighead carp. However, the bighead carp themselves cause recreational, economic, and ecological damage. They compete with mussels, larval fish, and paddle fish.
