Antarctica is the coldest continent on Earth. The average temperature in the interior throughout the year is about -57°C, with the lowest being -90°C during the winter season. Although the coast is warmer and temperatures can reach a maximum of between -2°C and 8°C during the summer. It is, on average, the coldest, windiest, and driest of all the continents on Earth.
Since antarctica is so dry and so cold it is hard for plants to survive in this climate. However there are a few vascular plants that survive by photosynthesizing through their vasculars. On top of that their is an abundance of mosses, fungi and lichen that live in this climate that have no roots and thrive in the area.
There aren't that many different types of animals that live in antarctica due to its extreme climate and lack of fresh water. Some of the animals that do live there include:
Seals
Whales
Penguins
Krill and Fish
Squids
Flying Seabirds
Emperor Penguins are ONLY found on Antarctica and are not invasive at all
Emperor Penguins have a diet of small fish, krill and sometimes squid. Adult Emperor Penguins consume 4.4-11 lb of food per day except at the start of the breeding season or when they are building up their body mass they can eat up to 13 pounds of food per day. They usually dive in the water and swim after their food to catch their prey.
