Bio: The Elder Gods had sensed portals opening up throughout the realms, portals that exuded immense power and were of an energy far different than what had ever been shown before. With the risk of beings like Shao Kahn attempting to use this power to violate the rules of the Mortal Kombat tournament, and since the Elder Gods were to watch over all realms, not just the ones only they were able to view, they sent one of their most powerful gods, Raiden, to investigate what was going on and put a stop to any threats that were there. As he walked through the portal, Raiden came across a world besieged in fighting. With his current champion, Liu Kang, not in this world, Raiden searched for another champion to assist him in this world and found a warrior in a white gi who refered to himself only as "Ryu". Sensing a similar power within this man, Raiden felt he would be a helpful warrior, and so the two teamed up, hoping to make their way home from the world of Death Battle
Intro: A bolt of lightning crashes down as Raiden appears from it, lightning jumping between his two hands. Ryu then walks over next to him. "You shall face the might a warrior and a god of thunder. Are you worthy of this challenge?" Raiden proclaims to the opponent. "The answer lies in the heart of this battle" Ryu adds before the two get into stances to fight
Raiden is all about controlling where the opponent can go and what they can do. His moves give him excellent mobility which makes his opponents have a hard time fighting him. However, Raiden doesn't really have a lot of raw damage and he can't take very many hits since his stamina is quite low
-Lightning Bolt: Raiden fires a spear of lightning from his palms. Firing two in succession is optional. The attack can also be fired behind him, which will wrap around the screen. This move can be helpful for distractions as well as giving Raiden some zoning options
-Electric Fly: Raiden flies forward, fists out to slam into the enemy and push them backward. A great approach move that can also be used to extend a combo if done right
-Teleport: Raiden vanishes into electricity, then reappears somewhere else on the ground. This can make for some helpful surprise attacks and can even extend combos, though the latter takes practice
-Shocking Touch: Raiden reaches out and, if he touches the opponent, lifts them up into the air and electrocutes them for a brief period, dumping them unceremoniously on the ground afterward. A great finisher to a combo, but the range is rather short
-Tripwire: Raiden creates a sphere of energy either near the ground, in the air in front of him, or high in the air. Should the opponent touch it, a burst of electricity will damage them. This move gives Raiden plenty of control over where his opponents can go
-Raiden uppercuts the enemy into the air, then creates a rotating, four-pronged sphere of lightning that suspends the opponent in midair for a while. To finish it, Raiden rockets in the air and fires a massive spear of lightning that sends the opponent to the ground.

Ryu is a pretty balanced character in terms of stats, and his attacks are all incredibly effective, but they also leave him pretty wide open if they don't hit their mark, meaning one has to learn the right timing when using them
-Hadouken: Ryu puts his palms forward and fires a somewhat slow-moving ball of bluish energy. A standard projectile attack. If an extra set of commands is performed before the attack is unleashed, it will become the Shakunetsu Hadouken, which is stronger, but slower as well, making it better for closer confrontations
-Shoryuken: Ryu jumps to perform an uppercut on the opponent, hitting the opponent twice. Useful anti-air attack that also gives Ryu a chance to jump over certain attacks as well.
-Tatsumaki Senpukyaku: Ryu spins like a top, foot extended, and "floats" forward a certain distance, hitting the opponent repeatedly. He also passes over any low-attacks, making it a somewhat safer approaching move
-Joudan Sokutogeri: Ryu briefly turns away from his enemy and then sharply thrusts his foot back to kick the enemy. If landed, the opponent will fly backwards and will even bounce off of the wall of the arena if they hit it
-Focus Attack: Ryu will surround himself in a black, ink-like aura and make a slow and short straight-punch. During this time, Ryu is granted super armor, preventing attacks from knocking him back, but still providing small to moderate damage.
-Ryu charges ki in his palms, then thrusts his hands forward to fire a massive beam of bluish energy. The beam can also be fired straight up to catch airborne enemies that get too close.

Costume 3: Earthrealm Warrior (Liu Kang (Mortal Kombat 9) Appearance save for Ryu's face and gloves
-Ryu gut-punches the opponent, causing them to buckle, then plants a thrusting kick into their midsection that knocks them backward. As they fly back, Raiden teleports behind them and catches them in his palms, electrocuting them before blasting them into the air. Ryu sprints towards Raiden, screeching to a halt at the Thunder God's side. Both pull back a fist and, just as the opponent comes back down, they hit the opponent in the gut with a powerful lightning-charged uppercut and calling out "ARASHI...SHOR-YU-KEEEEEN!" On the final syllable, the punch goes through and the opponent rockets skyward once again with an electric aura around them before they come crashing down.
(On top of a mountain, Ryu was meditating while Raiden was watching over the lands around them)
Raiden: I sense many warriors. Some with good hearts, but others that are here only for their own greed
Ryu: Anyone that is close by?
Raiden: I'm not sure. Though if there are, the elder gods will give us strength.
Ryu: These elder gods...do you know if they are here?
Raiden: I'm not sure. The elder gods normally watch over all realms, but this realm feels different. I feel like my powers are the same as they are in my normal domain, but I don't sense the elder gods for some reason...that worries me
Ryu: I am not a very religious man, but I hope that if there is someone out there, they are watching over us and protecting us
Raiden: You are quite the interesting warrior, Ryu Hoshi
Ryu: How so?
Raiden: You seek power, but in the form of strength. And you use that strength to help others. It is rare for me to meet someone who cares for strength and power but to wield a dark heart
Ryu: My master, Gouken, taught me that true strength comes from training, discipline, and helping others.
Raiden: He sounds like a friend of mine, who trained a powerful warrior...but I did not sense that warrior in this world
(Then, a portal opened up in front of both, and out of it stepped a knight clad in blue and a bare-chested warrior with a cow-skull mask. Ryu got up from his meditating)
Shao Kahn: Raiden. I am not surprised to see you here
Raiden: Shao Kahn. I was wondering if you would come out of hiding
Kahn: I have not been hiding. I've been fighting warriors that have gotten in my way. And I even managed to make a friend, just like you
Ryu: What even is that?
Nightmare: I am your death. And I will devour your soul when I am finished with you!
(Nightmare ran to Ryu and took a swing, but Ryu grabbed the blade before it could strike him and threw it so that Nightmare would stumble before delivering a Joudan Sokutogeri to the azure knight)
Ryu: If you want my soul, you'll have to do better than that
(Shao Kahn smirked at the thunder god)
Kahn: Your newest pupil has talent. I wonder if he is as strong as your other defenders of Earthrealm
Raiden: I think you'll find that he is much stronger than you expect, as am I
(Raiden created lightning between his hands as Kahn got into a fighting stance. Nightmare was finally able to recover in time for all four warriors to be ready to fight)
With Raiden's god powers and Ryu's strength and discipline, the realms were finally free. But Raiden could sense within Ryu a force that was clearly driving him mad. With the ability to control the portals given to Earthrealm's special forces, Raiden offered Ryu the chance to work with people who could help him quell the raging spirit within him that Ryu called the Satsui no Hado. Taking Raiden's advice, Ryu traveled to Sado, the Realm of Order, where he could more easily control both the dark hado and it's counterpart, the Power of Nothingness. When his training felt complete in that regard, he returned home to do what he always did: wander his world and perfect his ability as a fighter.
