Bio: The living embodiment of the legendary sword, Soul Edge, the Azure Knight first gained physical form by possessing the body of a noble knight named Siegfried and would constantly battle him for total control. While Nightmare has often been forced from his host body, Soul Edge is often enough to give him a body of his own. Nightmare is intent on plunging the world into darkness and, with the power of Soul Edge, he may achieve it if not for its eternal rival, Soul Calibur.

Special Attacks:

-Bloody Invasion: Nightmare punches the ground with his three-clawed hand, creating a short-range shockwave that can bowl enemies off their feet.

-Dark Reconquista: Nightmare raises Soul Edge into the air, shouts its name, then swings it down in a powerful vertical chop. This chop can bounce opponents into the air on impact and stagger them if they block.

-Massacre: Nightmare performs a powerful horizontal slash and can follow up with one of three attacks.

*Ravage: A series of upward-whirling, close-range melee slashes while Nightmare advances.

*Death Hand: A backhand with his clawed hand that can knock an opponent down

*Punish: A leaping overhead chop that creates a small shockwave on impact

-Death Row: Nightmare charges at the opponent, sword pointing forward, to push them. If he successfully impales the opponent and pushes them to the other side of the ring, he will pin them to the invisible wall, twist the blade for extra damage, then slam them to the ground.

-Critical Edge: If Nightmare uses a special move with the addition of an extra button, his sword will crackle with red lightning and his strength will increase slightly.

Throws

FORWARD: Nightmare grabs the opponent by the neck, then smashes the pommel into their head twice. A third final hit sends them to the ground.

BACKWARD: Nightmare, single-handedly, picks up the opponent and smashes them to the ground hard enough to crack it.

Super Moves

-Evil Seed:Nightmare plants a powerful haymaker into the opponent with his clawed hand, then uppercuts them into the air. He charges Soul Edge with dark magic and stabs the tip of his blade into the ground. A sphere of crackling, crimson energy then surrounds Nightmare as the opponent falls into it, screaming in agony. When the sphere dissipates, the opponent is on the ground and Nightmare holds Soul Edge up as the energy vanishes into its eye, the azure knight chuckling darkly.

-Night Terror: Nightmare roars as the essence of Soul Edge flares outward and seeps into his body, transforming him into the winged monster, Night Terror. For a brief period, Night Terror will be controllable to the player. It can fly to gain ground, has significantly stronger attacks, and gains a new Special Move in the form of a multi-hitting, stage-crossing beam of energy. He will change back to Nightmare after a few seconds.

--Inferno: Attainable only when Nightmare enters Night Terror and loses all his health with a full Super Meter. Night Terror's armor cracks as the essence of Soul Edge takes the form of a fiery figure known as Inferno. Inferno will gather fiery energy in its palms, then latch onto the opponent's head and release that energy point-blank before drawing it all back, basically absorbing a part of their soul. The opponent is heavily damaged while Inferno gains all the health that the opponent lost with that attack. When the move is performed, armor will fit itself on Inferno and, in a burst of red lightning, turn him back into Nightmare.

FATALITIES:

-Pommel Crush: Nightmare seizes his opponent around the neck with his clawed hand, then takes the pommel of Soul Edge and smashes it into their forehead, causing blood to fly out. One more smash and a visible indentation becomes visible between their eyes. Another smash and their head begins caving in, and another leaves a huge, bloody cavity in their face, nose smashed in and one eyeball protruding from its socket. Nightmare then releases them and leaves them to crumple to the ground.

-Dragged to Hell: Nightmare kicks the opponent down, then stabs them through the gut with Soul Edge, causing blood to spurt from the wound. Leaving the blade embedded in the ground, he releases it, reaches down and grabs them by the ankle, then drags them towards him, causing the blade to cut through them, first through the chest, then through the head. When he's finished, Nightmare holds up his mutilated trophy with a vile laugh.

Intro: The blade of Soul Edge embeds itself in the ground until Nightmare grips it in his left hand and hefts it up, holding it at his side, tip pointing up.

Outro: Nightmare crackles with red lightning, then plants the tip of Soul Edge into the ground and holds his clawed hand forward before clenching it into a fist.

Prologue: Standing proudly atop a mighty castle, the Azure Knight known to all as Nightmare stood with Soul Edge firmly in his vile clutches, waiting for any foolish warrior naive enough to challenge him. When a portal came into being before him, Nightmare could smell the souls of powerful warriors emanating from it. Eager to sate his hunger, Nightmare strode into its depths, aiming to quench Soul Edge's seemingly-unending hunger for souls.

Rival Cutscene:

(Nightmare stands atop the lookout of a gloomy, worn-down castle, gazing at a semi-spheroid of crimson lightning in his three-fingered hand.)

Nightmare: So many powerful souls and yet my own essence craves more to add to my collection. (clenches fist, causing the lightning to dissipate) All for the mere taste of such strength.

(Nightmare gives a confused "huh" and turns behind him. Nobody's there, but he feels a presence down below and chuckles to himself.)

Nightmare: Well...I figured I would come across him sooner or later--the one whose soul rages like open fire. Let us see if he's as lethal and brutal as I remember...

(Nightmare descends into darkness and re-materializes in a large room down below the tower. With a flex of his very soul, the torches around him suddenly extinguish, much to the surprise of another person in the room. Nightmare, one with the shadows, speaks out to his soon-to-be victim.)

Nightmare: We meet again, Black Swordsman. So glad you could carve out some time for both of us.

(No response is given, though Nightmare could have sworn he heard the sound of metal on metal, like someone readying to pull a large sword.)

Nightmare: Such unbridled fury...such hatred...and the smell of blood, both human and demon, hangs thick in the air around you. It's all overwhelming, really.

???: Shut up and show yourself already if it's a fight you want!

Nightmare: Ah...and still quite a bloodthirsty beast. It's good to know that some things have not changed. (brief pause) Regardless...I shall grant you what you desire, berserker. Your soul is MINE!

(Guts whirls around, the Dragonslayer swinging free of his back, and meets the oncoming strike of a heavy object. From the darkness, he can make out a glowing spheroid the color of fire, as well as a pair of bright-red eyes. The room suddenly lights itself as a series of torches across the room suddenly light up, revealing the object to be a massive, demonic sword and its owner to be an azure knight with a demonic right hand--Nightmare.)

(Nightmare rushes forward to meet the intruder, but his downward-chop is met with a loud "CLANG", the sparks briefly revealing his opponent. A flex of Nightmare's soul is enough for the torches to light up, revealing his "victim" in full to be a tall man with obsidian-colored armor, a mechanical hand, and wielding a blade longer than he was tall.)

Guts: (straining against Nightmare...then smiles) And here I was thinking I had something to worry about.

(Both separate, then clash in a fast array of swings with their massive zweihanders, unleashing a series of deafening clangs and showers of sparks with each blow. Both lock blades again, then step back to put distance between them.)

Nightmare: Your desire to win is as impressive as I remember! With your body and the will of Soul Edge, you could be unstoppable! Why deny its will in favor of your own broken body and savage soul?

Guts: I've had other promise the same thing...and they can all go to hell for their shallow promises!

Nightmare: Such arrogance and stubbornness. I will have to remedy that when I claim your soul.

(Both charge, swords ready for the kill before the screen fades to black.)

Ending: Nightmare did more than just defeat the Mastermind of Death Battle. He had absorbed many powerful souls and took their power for his own, including gaining a new host to act as Soul Edge's vessel--the Black Swordsman's inner darkness proved a valuable asset to Soul Edge, such beastly anger fueling its dark essence and keeping many of the absorbed souls in check. A dark age was coming and its vanguard was Nightmare.
