Bio: Trained in the dark arts by Shao Kahn himself, Shang Tsung is a sorcerer from Outworld who roams between the realms, committing several atrocities along the way. After cheating in the Mortal Kombat tournament, the Elder Gods punished Shang Tsung to wither away into nothingness unless he continuously absorbed souls to prevent such a fate. As the original organizer of the first Mortal Kombat tournament, he oversaw the tournament to ensure Outworld's victory and allow Shao Kahn's invasion of the realms to continue as planned, but was foiled by Liu Kang and the defenders of Earthrealm. Since then, Shang Tsung has served Shao Kahn and made use of his cowardly nature to usurp and gain power several times, but never truly succeeding.

Special Moves:

-Flaming Skulls: Shang Tsung launches a flaming skull as a projectile at the opponent. This can be done up to three times in a row.

-Soul Steal: Shang Tsung grabs the opponent and begins to steadily absorb their soul, regaining his own lost health in the process. The opponent can break out by mashing buttons.

-Hot Escape: Shang Tsung disappears into a fiery pit, before rising out of the same pit behind the opponent.

-Surprise Blade: Shang Tsung grabs the opponent, stabs them in the gut with a hidden straight sword, and then kicks them away from himself, pulling the blade out of them in the process.

-Sinister Imitation: Shang Tsung transforms into one of three different Mortal Kombat characters, using a move based on the attack button used.

*Smoke: Turns into a gray-clad ninja and vibrates in place. If he's attacked, he will spring into the air and come back down to stomp on them.

*Reptile/Rain: Turns into a green-clad ninja that slides forward on a trail of acid to trip the opponent, then turns into a violet-clad ninja to follow up with a five-hit, water-laced combo attack.

*Ermac: Turns into a red-clad ninja that creates a green patch on the ground. If the opponent steps on it, they will levitate in place, leaving them vulnerable to attack.

-Morphing: Shang Tsung will transform into the opponent, though this can only be done after performing Soul Steal. In the opponent's form, he will be able to use all of the moves, but if he takes too much damage, he will transform back into Shang Tsung.

Throws

FORWARD: Shang Tsung grabs the opponent by the face, then smashes a fiery skull into their midsection that knocks them backward.

BACKWARD: Shang Tsung teleports behind the opponent, then stabs the opponent in the back with his sword, letting them crumple.

Super Moves:

-Sinister Scroll: Shang Tsung whips out a scroll and casts an enchantment on the opponent, which is chosen at random. The effect depends on the color, but all last the same amount of time--a few seconds.

*RED: The opponent's attacks significantly weaken in terms of damage inflicted.

*VIOLET: The opponent's defense lowers, leaving them more susceptible to damage.

*GREEN: The opponent's health slowly drains, though if it depletes, it will not kill them unless Shang Tsung lands a hit on them.

-Sinister Serpent: Shang Tsung conjures a giant, fiery serpent that surges across the stage. This can inflict multiple, fire-based hits on the opponent and push them across the stage as they phase through its body. It then coils around Shang Tsung in a protective manner and dissipates.

-Many Faces: Shang Tsung turns into Sub-Zero and blasts the opponent with a barrage of ice balls, freezing them in place. He then turns into Scorpion, lashing out with a kunai to pull the opponent to him, before turning into Noob Saibot, suplexing them into a portal that opens very high up and smashes their head into the ground. He then returns to his normal form and chuckles, saying "such fun".

FATALITIES:

-Soul Absorption: Shang Tsung seizes the opponent by the head as green soul energy begins to drain out of them. The opponent then begins to age rapidly until they are reduced to little more than a mummified corpse. Shang Tsung will release them as they crumple, then holds up their soul, admiring it like some priceless treasure.

-Suicide Possess: Shang Tsung transforms into green energy and flies into the opponent. The opponent's own hand then starts reaching for their head in spite of their protest and struggling. Seizing the head, the opponent proceeds to pull their own head off. When they start to fall to the ground, Shang Tsung emerges with a crafty chuckle.

Intro: A decrepit old man walks into the field before suddenly glowing green and revealing that it is in fact, Shang Tsung.

Outro: Shang Tsung pulls the opponent's soul from their body and chuckles darkly as he holds it within his hand.

Prologue: Shang Tsung's latest attempt at seizing power ending quickly due to the interference of Earthrealm's defenders. For this failure, Shao Kahn would surely kill him, but the sorcerer of Outworld had other plans. Using a spell to escape to another realm, Shang Tsung was surprised to find himself in a new, unfamiliar realm--one without any life, but instead only having a single thing: an invitation to enter a tournament. Thinking of the many souls he could consume and the power he could gain from it, Shang Tsung accepted.

Rival Cutscene:

(Shang Tsung gazes at a soul he has claimed, flexing his fingers and admiring how it moves like fire before absorbing it into his body)

Shang Tsung: Another soul is mine....but I still feel that there is something missing. Something incomplete...

(Shang Tsung sets off at a brisk-yet-patient pace before turning a corner and seeing the back of a certain Raging Demon. He backs off a bit, but smiles at the thought of one thing: revenge.)

Shang Tsung: (chuckling) Of course. The one that got away...

(Shang Tsung emerges from his hiding spot and, with a thrust of his palm, fires a Flaming Skull at Akuma...only for Akuma to turn just in time and smash the projectile with a single punch before looking at the sorcerer with glowing red eyes)

Shang Tsung: I see your reflexes are as swift as I remember.

Akuma: I killed you once already, shapeshifting dog.

Shang Tsung: I cannot die so easily, Raging Demon.

Akuma: I have no time for weaklings like you. Get out of my sight.

(Akuma turns to walk away, only for Shang Tsung to appear in front of him in a burst of fire.)

Shang Tsung: I'm afraid you will not leave this place, Demon.

(Shang Tsung holds up his hands, lighting them with green fire that takes on a vague skull-like shape.)

Shang Tsung: Not until I reclaim that which is mine, that is.

Akuma: If you are so eager to die again, then SO BE IT!

(Akuma stomps the ground, his body alight with the distinct glow of Satsui no Hado in action. Shang Tsung hooks his fingers into claws as he takes a battle-ready pose.)

Shang Tsung: YOUR SOUL WILL BE MINE!

(Both stand, ready for combat, as the screen fades to black.)

Ending: Shang Tsung got what he wished for--many, many souls for him to consume and draw untold power from. However, while the souls gave the sorcerer much power, it came with a grave cost. The many souls he consumed began to overwhelm his mind, driving him to madness. That was until the voice of one of the souls he consumed told him to concentrate. Shang Tsung obeyed, and slowly regained control his new power. After much time and training, Shang Tsung learned how to communicate with them and, after learning a lesson from one of the souls he consumed regarding great power and responsibility, Shang Tsung had a change of heart and decided to put his new power to a better use--protecting the realms from the forces of Outworld.
