"This week I have had the 'dim and distant past' setting turned up high on the wi-fi again.
I am very fond of this…"

"I am aware of false memory syndrome, but in this case I am convinced that the term doesn’t apply!"
"Athough the same could not be said of trolley busses, before about 1970 in Southend there was no roofed or enclosed bus station. My memory dictates that prior to that date, it was often both dark and raining, whilst I waited for a bus at ‘The Vic Circus’. As a result, when I could afford to do so, I used to drink camp coffee, made with sterilised milk, in ‘The Blue Bird Cafe’ (invariably pronounced Kaff). As well as ‘fly papers’ that hung from the ceiling in ringlets, The BBC had a juke box crammed with Dubliners (and Luke Kelly) singles. On the back of one of them (possibly the wonderfully rousing shanty ‘The Holy Ground’) was a song called ‘High Germany’ which appears on the Best of The Dubliners LP. It sports lots of whistle and ‘Dublin in the Green’ style strident vocals by Like Kelly."
High Germany performed by The Dubliners -
"Another record that I didn’t own but knew well due to friends who did was the album that Pentangle brought out in 1972. It was called ‘Solomons Seal’ on it was the song ‘High Germany’. The track had lots of Bert Jansch’s Banjo, John Reborn’s medieval sounding twingly electric guitar and Jackie McShee’s usual ‘dog whistle’ high vocals and there was a flappy frame drum too."
High Germany performed by Pentangle -
"I confess that I never owned a Dubliners record but I knew many very well having shared a flat with an Irish friend who was a committed fan, but it wasn’t until this week that I realised that the record on the juke box by The Dubliners and the one by Pentangle were the same song! Hooray for YouTube!"
"And unless there is someone else that has had the same thought… a stop press request for a bonus, please Tim."
Gene Hackman by Robyn Hitchcock -

"I think it's time for me to sign off from the RPM collective, with thanks to Tim for keeping the thing going and to the other RPMers for many inspired and revelatory choices over a good many years. I still don't "get" Prog-Rock, detest most Heavy Metal, and consider the musical importance of Punk-Rock to have been grossly exaggerated (much more significant as a fashion style if you ask me). I might look in from time to time, but for now I'll finish with a video of Mick Eve and his band playing at The Constitution in Camden Town."
A Slow Boat To China performed by Mick Eve and band -

"Best wishes to one and all."
"I always think of Philip as being one of the RPM original core crew and looking back at the RPM archive, I think Philip started attending the original Elsing village hall meetings in December 2012; that's a long time to keep up a supply of tunes....so heartfelt thanks, Philip, for your support over the years. Best wishes and by all means send in the odd tune if you feel so inclined." Tim.
"Oh dear...sorry Philip; my week was a bit proggish in a weird hippy psychedelic sort of way...and certainly folkish as always...but not in any way metalish, you'll be relieved to hear. Two tracks from me this time as one is longish...but short in prog terms..."
Flying Teapot by Gong - "When teaching myself to play bass guitar in the mid 80s, this was one bass line I was particularly obsessed with..."
Gravel Walk performed by Eileen Ivers - "High octane, Hendrixish Irish fiddle anyone...?
'Til Next Time...
