Welcome to the RPM Record Club seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 9th August 2024. What's been catching your collective ears this week? Over to....
"Hi folks. Apart from disclosing that the sofa cushions have been taking a bit of a bashing, I will leave you to figure out for yourselves what I have been occupying my time with this week..."

Swimming Song performed by Kate & Anna McGarrigle -
Jumpin' at Shadows by Fleetwood Mac -
"Hi folks. Hope you're all well. Hugely enjoyed your selections last week.
Agreed re 'oldies & goodies' talent, Phillip. Hope you had an amazing time at the Cambridge Folk festival Piers & Jayne. Great minds re a bit of classical music sharing on 26th July, Kevin & agreed re Losing My Religion. Good to know you're still checking in, Alan + thanks for your informative piece.
My 3 this week are collaborations. I'm having a stab at song writing with Mike a very kind, patient & generous chap who lives in Cambridgeshire following a workshop on Dartmoor we attended in June. Speed of an Ice Age stuff, watch this space..."

"Have a fab weekend folks, take care."
"Greetings from Swanton Morley. Is anyone else out there wishing that those purveyors of "post-truth politics" in the Reform Party, especially Fuhrer Farage, would swallow their dog-whistles? Or possibly even swallow their dogs? And speaking of swallowing things, does anyone know if Teflon Don or Agent Orange or whatever you want to call him likes his human flesh with fava beans and a nice chianti?
Changing the subject, who agrees with Record Collector's assessment of Taylor Swift as "the 21st century Joni Mitchell?" (sacrilegious aside: I prefer Taylor).
Onwards and upwards...
This week's selections are from three forthcoming albums that I suspect might be worth a listen."
Went to a Party by Nick Lowe and Los Straightjackets - "Nick The Knife has just returned from a time-travelling trip to 1965."

The Future Won't Be Long by Spirogyra - "Not to be confused with the US jazz fusion band Spyro Gyra, this is from Spirogyra's debut LP St. Radiguns, my favourite prog-folk album of all time."
Daddy Was No Murderer By Capital Letters - "Another great slice from the tasty cake that is British Reggae circa 1979, the ingredients of which also included Matumbi, Aswad, Steel Pulse and Misty In Roots (plus many others)."
"Hi guys. Here's my trio of delights."
Avant Gardener by Courtney Barnett - "A medical tale, containing the fabulous lines 'The paramedic thinks I'm clever 'cos I play guitar / I think she's clever 'cos she stops people dying'."
