"Thanks to all for last week's tunes and thanks to modern tech I was able to listen to nearly all of them and to stream music in my rental car driving up the Trans-Labrador Highway from Blanc-Sablon to Red  Bay and onto Mary's Harbour..."

Philip -

"Greetings to all from Swanton Morley. Thought I'd go for selections from three 2024 albums this week."

Old Dutch by Bonny Light Horseman - "Yes, I know I've already chosen one track from the new record, but it really is terrific. In the good old days of vinyl it would have been a double album as it contains 20 songs (OK, 19 songs and a snatch of conversation from an Irish pub). While I believe many "doubles" over the years could have been edited down to "single" length without losing much of value, I think this album earns every one of its' 63 minutes."

Right Back To It by Waxahatchee - "Katie Crutchfield and band from "Tiger's Blood"."

It's All In Your Mind by Hermanos Gutierrez - "...from "Sonido Cosmico," received this week in the post."

"Hiya! Here's my three..."

Going to Georgia by Jake Xerxes Fussell - "Deserves a hearing on the strength of his name alone!"

Open Door by Justin Wade Tam - "Someone else with a pretty tune and three parts to his name."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5Dw9xmENpY&ab_channel=JustinWadeTam

Four Winds by Bright Eyes "(The band, not to be confused with that dreadfully saccharine Garfunkel song). A typically apocalyptic number from Conor Oberst."

"Be good."

Nina -

"Hiya...Hope you're all well. I was off grid on Dartmoor for a wilding + songwriting workshop last week - revelatory!

Still catching up with your choices from the last 2 weeks, superb as ever.

Sending summer solstice bliss + joy your way."

Belong Together by Mark Ambor -

Sadness of the Sea by Martha Tilston - "The sea is always an extremely happy place for me, had a joyous kitesurfing session on her this afternoon.

I like this track regardless + enjoyed spending 5 days of Martha's facilitation last week."

Litha (Summer Solstice) song by Lisa Thiel -

"Cheers!"

Piers -

"I have long wished that I possessed one of those voices suited to 'high lonesome' bluegrass. I wouldn't mind being a reasonable picker too. As an illustration of just how good a combination of those things can sound, I was all set to post a gem of a Clarence White track (Dark Hollow by Muleskinner) when the sun came out! I also know that today (Thursday) one of Earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun. The sky was blue and the birds were trilling in amongst the green leaves too. The sun was out for over an hour yesterday too so it must be summer. I must be right!

I nipped out to the shops and got myself a nice new short sleeved shirt and  I thought to myself  "well... if it is Summer, that means I’d better get that light and groovy samba rhythm thing going before autumn kicks in and I have to start listening to melancholic, Norwegian, harmonium based folk music by candle light again… "

"Of course my first choice had to have some of that classic 70s vibe..."

Alvarada by Cartola -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFfwRYf3YzE

"But this is a bit more modern (90s) and even  incorporates a bit of that favourite hillbilly instrument jaws harp…"

Baianá by Barbatuques -

www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHyzrYBACcg

("It was very hard to choose a single track by Barbatuques as everything that those guys do is  absolutely  mesmeric. If you like 'Baianá' it is well worth checking out some of their other concert footage.")

"And this is even more current, being released at the back end of last year..."

Favela Canta by Xande de Pilares & Vinny Santa Fé -

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea9XmJKGlfQ

"There is football on the telly in the bottom bar of 'The Crown' tonight (Thursday). Jayne just told me that if I want to avoid it, I should wrap up warm, as we will have to sit in the yard at the back of the pub ("You could look on it as a dry run for Folk In A Field..." - Tim) Maybe it's time to light the candle for some Sami Chanting!"

Tim -

"My sun themed summer solstice three..."

Seen The Sun by Ed Wynne with Gre Vanderloo - "From Mr Ozric's second solo outing released in 2022."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mCX3G_7Z3Q

Sunflowers of Your Mind by Daisy Rickman - "From this years second solo album, 'Howl'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pOQ59DYZwY

Children of the Sun by Hawkwind - "From the space rockers 1971 second LP...hmmm, an unintentional theme going on here as well as my initial solstice one...earliest for 228 years, btw."
