"Here's my 3 picks for the week. Best wishes to all you RPMers - getting cooler isn't it??"

Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed - "There was a fitting obituary to Brian 'Herbie' Flowers in my  paper this week who passed away earlier this month.

Who wouldn't be proud of the bass line he created and laid down for this song alone (for which he was paid the princely sum of £17 - not to mention £9 for 3 hours work on Bowie's 'Space Oddity') See Herbie Flowers entry on Wiki and you will appreciate the scope of his considerable talent and achievements."

"Three earworms from me this time. There is a good chance that they are infectious so beware...

I shall start with a song that has being going round and round my head as long as I can remember. Often I annoy myself by accidentally playing or singing it, only to regret it minutes later!  Here it is played and sung by an artist that I appreciated at the time but took far too much for granted during his all too brief career. A huge talent. He had a great voice. He was a tasteful picker and he had his own timeless sense of style. He was simply there in the background being himself. Until suddenly he wasn't.  I underestimated him at the time but he had a huge influence on me. I still hugely miss Leon Redbone."

Polly Wolly Doodle by Leon Redbone -

"Ever since (courtesy of 'our beloved leader') I heard this in Elsing village hall a while ago, this has been cycling around in the ear worm soup behind Polly dolly doodle...  partially because it gets sung regularly at sing arounds but mainly because it is such a great song..."

The Longshot by Megson -

"And one which I am sure has been stuck in many heads through the years!"

The Earl of Salisbury by William Byrd, played by Ben Walker -

"RPM is always worth checking out. There is always something to enjoy, many things I would never otherwise hear and some that I love on rehearing that but for RPM I wouldn't bother to dig out! The choices of late have been exceptionally groovy - even the very few that have got up my nose are pretty excellent in their own way!

After my complaints last week about the weather perhaps we can we hope for an Indian summer... lets hope so! One way or another keep on the sunny side folks!"

David -

"Thanks to all for more great music last week, much of which was completely new to me. Here are my 3 this week."

"Hi all. We lost another good one this week. RIP Herbie Flowers, one of the all-time great sessions players. I've tucked his memorable 'Walk on the Wild Side' riff in as a cheeky bonus track - but, please Tim, only if no-one else has proposed the same song as one of their three choices." (Yep...already sorted by Tony. Tim)
