Welcome to the RPM Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 14th February 2025. Hope you're gonna luv the tunes this week...over to...
"Here are my choices for the week with best wishes to all as usual."
Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas -
Mr E's Beautiful Blues by Eels -
Sweet Gene Vincent by Ian Dury & The Blockheads with Wilco Johnson - "As this week marked what would have been Gene Vincent's 90th Birthday, I thought I'd give this
an airing. Was anybody else at the UEA to see Ian and the Blockheads in 2000 just under a month before he died? Only time I made an effort to get right up to the stage."
"Hi RPMers. Thanks for an interesting collection of tracks last week.... especially to Nina for a wonderful snapshot of the music of Zanzibar, also to Jayne for introducing us to The Pill. Here are three tracks that I've enjoyed listening to this week."
The Princess Royal by Trad Arrr - "The version of The Princess Royal by Trad Arrr from their Cautionary Tales album doesn't seem to be available on YouTube so I've chosen this live clip instead."
Baby What I Mean by The Drifters - "A track I picked back in the Elsing Village Hall days of RPM. I think the theme was something like 'A song you wouldn't normally expect from this band/singer'."
Past, Present And Future by Demon Fuzz - "Another band that appeared at the legendary 'Penny Concert' at The Melody Rooms in Norwich in 1970 (which I know I've mentioned before, but it was rather special). The other bands on the bill were Comus, Titus Groan and Heron."

"Best wishes to you all, as always."
"A bit of a bumper week music wise for me. Firstly thanks for the veritable cornucopia of selections last week. I would love to know how those folks in Zanzibar keep so happy. Two live shows this week, Jason Isbell solo acoustic at the Barbican ( I wondered if Philip might be there) - I had drifted away from JI over the last few years as it all became a little too overblown for me. However I had a Barbican credit which was due to expire in a few weeks so I took a punt and it was well worth it. Then it was off on Thursday to Wells Maltings to see Gavin Fairhall Lever who were excellent and very engaging during and after the show. I was equally delighted that Jayne and Piers introduced me to Tim and Jackie and it was great to put faces to their names. Finally, Friday saw 3 new releases which on first hearing are right up there with their best stuff."
"First, from Love + Freedom it's..."
Joe Ely (and Ryan Bingham) with Deportee -
"And next..."
The Third Mind with Morning Dew -
"And finally...with what might be Willy Vlautin's take on St. Valentine..."
The Delines with Mr. Luck and Ms. Doom -

"That's All Folks."
"Just one selection from me today, dedicated to Jacquie for Valentine's Day. (We went to The Pigs at Edgefield for a Valentine's Day meal... always excellent. If you've not been there, I highly recommend it). I have chosen a song that I believe I submitted once before, since in its' original version by Ben E. King it is my favourite single. This version can't match that, but it does show John Lennon as one of the great rock'n'roll voices."
Stand By Me performed by John Lennon - "A version shown on OGWT in 1975."

Luisa by Clark and Zuppardi -
"Enjoyed seeing Gavin Fairhall Lever perform a very interesting set including Standing Stone (one of my RPM choices from two weeks ago) live at Wells on Thursday with a mini RPM get together. Here is my submission for this week and thank you for yours."
Mingus Lullaby by Erlend Viken Trio -
Pretty Girls by Honeyglaze -
Ghosted by Beth Malcolm -
"A bit of a mix this week...music from a live gig, a much loved live album and a charity shop find."
Tearing Down Walls by Gavin Fairhall Lever -
Down Through The Night by Hawkwind -
It's Done Gone Wet by Mississippi Sheiks -
'Til Next Time...
