Welcome to the RPM Record Club Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 6th September 2024. What's been burning your ears and banging at your brains this week? Over to...
"After sitting in the sun at Burston Rally on the first, suddenly there are 5 pairs of shorts in the wash and I'm wearing socks with long legged Jeans and a jacket over my T-shirt; it'll be time to find a bobble hat soon. This is what I've turned to for consolation..."
Bye Bye Love by David Lindley -
Rollin' On by Jackie Venson -
Scaled to Survive by Leyla McCalla -
"Best wishes to all RPMers - enjoying the music. Anybody try to get tickets for the Brothers Grimm? I most definitely didn't."
Roosevelt And Ira Lee by Tony Joe White - "Tony Joe and the Monument Record label think that the water moccasin is really a "mossacin", but who are we to argue? Short (30 seconds) commentary at the start from Tony Joe."
Can't Be Satisfied by Little Feat featuring Sam Clayton - "Great band showing no signs of fading."
Union Sundown Bob Dylan - "Here's a track from a fabulous, albeit politically motivated album (Infidels) by Bob Dylan, recorded in 1983, produced by Mark Knopfler and also
involving the slide skills of Mick Taylor. The song laments the decline of manufacturing in the USA (and beyond) - as relevant today as it was then. Twenty second blank at the start and have found a plus lyrics version to help interpret. Neighborhood Bully also on the album
- relevant to situation in the Middle East but written over 40 years ago so any bias is questionable."
"Hi ya...hope all is good with you guys. Here’s my 3."
Deep Dark Waters by Primal Scream -
There’s Always Been A Bird In Me by Mercury Rev -
These Dreams Of You by Van Morrison -
"Hi guys, hope you're out there enjoying this late summer sunshine. I've been lost in the blues this week. There are so many reasons to keep returning to the blues: the endless variety of music and poetry contained within a fairly rigid structure."
The Blues had a Baby... by Muddy Waters - "One of the very best bluesmen. It's been too long since I played this album."
Have You Ever Been Lonesome by Buddy Guy - "Buddy Guy doesn't always get the recognition he deserves, IMO. Love his distorted guitar and the sheer energy he projects through the speakers."

$29.00 by Tom Waits - "Tom Waits is a genius. Before I ever discovered his work, I heard this song on a friend's car radio (cassette) and could not believe I wasn't listening to a black man. His ability to conjure up the seedy side of life in this song is superb."

"Here's three from my listening week..."
Anthem by Rush - "My own self compiled "best of Rush" CD is still in the car CD player."
Master of the Universe by Hawkwind - "Just released is the remastered and remixed deluxe edition of my fave HW album, X In Search Of Space. Unfortunately Youtube has not yet caught up, so playing the original recording here...which I've also played a lot this week."
Portable Door by Deep Purple - "First new material from the band since the departure of Steve Morse, now with Simon McBride on guitar. A solid outing but not as good as last long player, Whoosh...in my opinion. This song is very Purple, though."
'Til Next Time...
