Welcome to the RPM Record Club Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 13th December 2024. I'm not counting the shopping days left 'til Crimbo, but there's only two RPMs! Here's the first...over to...
"Hi RPMers, I hope you're all keeping safe and well. Here are three tracks I've listened to this week."
Live With Me by The Rolling Stones - "I've chosen the mono version as my LP of 'Let It Bleed' (from which this is taken) is in mono..."
Wat About Di Workin' Claas by Linton Kwesi Johnson - "Described on the sleeve notes of the Making History LP as 'a jazz/reggae poem'. Can't argue with that!"
Song To The Siren (Take 7) by Tim Buckley - "Discovered this version via Spotify. 'Take 7' of Song To The Siren is quite different to the version on his 'Starsailor ' LP and very different to a version I have on a CD anthology which was recorded live on The Monkees T.V. show. 'Take 7' is currently my favourite version by Tim Buckley although an honorable mention must go to the superb interpretation by This Mortal Coil with vocals by Elizabeth Fraser (who also recorded a duet with Tim Buckley's son Jeff Buckley). I'll stop now..."
"Seasonal Greetings to all RPMers.
Last Saturday we braved the atrocious weather to drive from Norfolk to London (and back) for a Colin Currie Quartet performance at King's Palace. What a treat ! Of course there was the obligatory Steve Reich piece - Mallet Quartet as CC is a massive fan. None of the Scottish compositions that featured had previously been played before and so are unavailable to share. However here are some examples from 3 of the very special talents from that night that have kept me going through a week of a broken boiler and an elusive plumber."
"First up is a snippet of the Quartet rehearsing..."
Aileen Sweeney's Starburst -
"Next it's..."
Sol by Ben Nobuto performed by the Fellowship Ensemble -
"And finally from the album Bumps Per Minute: Studies for Dodgems here is..."
Limping Haberdasher by Anna Meredith -

"That's All Folks."
"At last, after spending a very friendly night of singing and music making with friends in The Crown at Fakenham, I am beginning to feel a little Christmassy..."
River by Joni Mitchell -
"And because listening to Joni I was reminded of who I once was…"
If You Wanna Get To Heaven by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils -
"Now that the season is upon me, I can start to look forward to sailing into a New, and hopefully better, Year for us all … no not Rod Stuart’s big hit."
Da Full Rigged Ship/Da New Rigged Ship performed by the Maxwell Quartet -
"Here's my 3 before we enter last week before Christmas RPM-wise. Best wishes to all, hoping you are side-stepping the manic run up to the Seasonal Holiday."
Bubba Jones by Tony Joe White - "I thought I'd already picked this but maybe I never sent it...Tim will tell me if I'm wrong! ("Can't seem to find it in the archive..." Tim.)
Come Tomorrow by Marie Knight - "This version was released before Manfred Mann's version and I think it deserved to do better."
Don't Think Twice It's Alright performed by Joan Baez - "An oldie but goodie."
"This week I’ve chosen Robyn Hitchcock from his recent album 1967, Robert Frost’s poem reworked as a choral piece and a Lithuanian folk duo performing a traditional lullaby with Bill Frisell, with all good wishes to a cosy, peaceful time."
Vacations In the Past by Robyn Hitchcock -

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening performed by Tenebrae, Rebecca Dale -
Lopšiné by merope -
"Thought I'd go a bit seasonal for the next two weeks, so wintery, (although global warming is putting a stop to that), and Christmassy..."
Debussy: Préludes VI. Des Pas Sur La Neige performed by Daniel Barenboim - "This came up on Radio 3 last week whilst doing a bit of shed work. It beautifully captured the winters day....even with the lack of snow!"
The Holy Bears A Berry performed by The Watersons - "My favourite rendition of this carol, so obvs needs including amongst some seasonal tunes."
If The Gaff Don't Let Us Down by Skinny Lister - "The track I chose of SL's last week closed their first album. This one is the opener...and mentions Christmas Day in the chorus."
''Til Next Time...
