Welcome to the RPM Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 27th June 2025...here's the collective's choices in order of arrival in the ol' in-box...over to...
"Here are my picks for the week."
Water of Love by Dire Straits -
Have A Cigar by Pink Floyd -
Any Major Dude Will Tell You by Steely Dan -
"Hi folks. Hope you're all well. The Golowan festival is in full swing in Penzance, lots of brilliant music + fun so my 3 this week are inspired by it."
By The Wind Sailor by Jon Woode -
Beacon on the Shore by Kana -
Soca (at Golowan 2022) by Kizamba - "Short clip, sound quality isn't great but gives a flavour. Kizamba are brilliant, based in Penzance. I've seen them several times + joined them for salsa dancing when on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly last July, but they don't have very much of their music online."

"A band of brothers and friends from San Francisco back last century."

"That's All Folks."
"As well as revisiting some of the fingerpicking guitarists that have inspired me from the very start of my playing, I have been tootling about on my concertina again as I have agreed to help Anto out with a shanty or two. I was hoping to find (that well known salty sea dog) Tim Chipping’s Version of Blow You Bully Boys Blow* but failing that we’ll have to put up with another favourite - Bob Roberts accompanying himself on melodeon."
Whiskey Johnny performed by Bob Roberts -

*(Song title is Yankee Clipper and I got it from the 1992(?) Show of Hands Live CD...find it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfUCML1X8Mw , Tim.........did you notice how I sneakily got in a bonus track here...?")
"I remember discovering Etta Baker when I was an art student and being surprised when I realised that 'Libba' Cotten’s guitar style wasn’t personal but regional. Their picking style being in an idiom specifically local to North Carolina. (Though now worldwide due to their influence)."
Railroad Bill performed by Etta Baker -
"Having been bought a guitar and an album by Big Bill Broonzy for my 13th birthday I started trying to play the next one on my first guitar (probably my first set of strings) in vey late 1963 so about 61 years ago - I still haven’t got past the first couple of bars. (Though it doesn’t stop me from singing it from time to time). Big Bill - (William Lee Conley Broonzy as he introduced himself on that album) was a one off. He could and did play and write in many styles from Ragtime and Hokum to Swing, Jump blues, Chart hits, and radical protest songs. Although he has over 200 songs credited to being his compositions, he also told audiencess that he never wrote a single thing. Illiterate in both language and music he knew and could recall thousands of songs and often improvised new lyrics live. Although an extraordinary musician he made what he did with those songs sound perfectly natural. He made them all his own. There has never been anyone else quite like him. Here he is playing a ‘pop’ tune recorded by Annette Hanshaw in 1929."
I Get the Blues When it Rains performed by Big Bill Broonzy -
"Still enjoying a summery vibe as evidenced by this weeks selection..."

"Hi RPMers, thanks for your picks as always. Here’s my 3."
New Generation by Suede -
Was I Wrong by Hotline TNT -
Ladies On The Way by Hofman -
"Here's an assortment of tracks from this weeks album listening..."
I Was Young When I Left Home by Bob Dylan - "This is found on disc one of The Bootleg Series Vol.7...just brilliant."
Rain on the Woodpile / Terminus by Leveret - "Lead-off track from album 3..."
Psychedelic Warlords by Hawkwind - "A bonus track from the CD reissue of Choose Your Masques, it was a re-recording of their 1974 song which here featured Huw Lloyd Langton on vocals and some rather fine wigging out on spacey lead guitar. This recording turned up originally as the B-side to the Silver Machine 20th anniversary single before finding it's way onto the Choose Your Masques CD reissue."
'Til Next Time...
"Which will be Friday 11th July, as I'm out of the RPM office next weekend managing the main stage at the Folk in a Field Festival. See some of you there." Tim
