Welcome to the RPM Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 25th July 2025...here's more sounds from the decks of the RPM collective...over to...
"Hi RPMers...can’t believe we are nearly to an end of an other month. Here’s my 3 for this week."
Temporary Blind by Built To Spill -
Are You Ready by Mercury Rev -
Here Come The Warm Dreads by Lee Scratch Perry featuring Brian Eno -
"Hi folks. Sad news about Ozzy Osborne; funny, talented & a brilliant spokesman for those living with Parkinson's Disease.
I'm on a van trip around ancient sites of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor for a few days, heading to the wonderful Drewe Arms community run pub tomorrow to hear Mark Radcliffe & pals play some music.. which I could also have done at the Acorn in Penzance as it turns out, but where's the fun in that?
My 3 are inspired by Mark Radcliffe's Folk show this week."
Tanglewood (Live) by the East Pointers -
Gaol's Gaire by Manran -
Steal the Sea by Mark Radcliffe & David Boardman -
"Bonus track, if Tim allows, it's short!"
(What did I say last week...?Here we go..."Tim)

"Cheers!"
"Greetings RPMers and best wishes to you all. This week I’ve selected Granny’s Attic who we saw a couple of days ago as part of the King’s Lynn Festival, an Arvo Pärt composition (his 90th birthday is coming up in a few weeks) and Lara Somogyi just because…"

"Hello RPMers. Thanks for some wonderful tunes last week. I particularly enjoyed Adieu Lovely Erin by Poor Creatures (Jayne's choice) and My Room (Live) by Divorce (Nina's choice). I've checked out other tracks by both of these acts and, as a result, there may be songs by them among my future choices for the Seven Day Soundtrack. In the meantime, here are three tracks that have caught my ears this week..."
Love Song by The Cure - "I've been totally hooked by the recent BBC drama 'Mix Tape'..... It prompted one of my choices last week and again this week with this gem from 'Disintegration' (my favourite album by The Cure although I'm very fond of both 'The Head on The Door' and 'Faith')."
Firebird by Magnum - "I remember something that Tim said quite a while ago (and I apologise if I'm misquoting him) that Magnum were, especially in their early days, a Heavy Rock band with leanings towards Prog. ("Yep, that rings a bell." Tim) I think this track from their second album illustrates the point (especially from 2:12 onwards)."
Break On Through (To The Other Side) by The Doors - "Blistering opening track from their eponymous debut from 1967(!). As it took quite some time before The Doors troubled the Top 40 to any great degree, you could argue that in 1967 they were ahead of their time. But, when you think of what The Stones had done in the previous year (e.g. Paint It Black) or the Yardbirds (e.g. Shapes Of Things) or The Small Faces (e.g. All Or Nothing) ..... maybe not. I rest my case. By the way, Break On Through got to number 64 in the UK singles chart in 1991 when it was released to tie in with the release of the film 'The Doors' starring Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison."
"This week as well as attending live performance by ‘Granny’s Attic’ (which was part of the Kings Lynn Festival) I have been listening to quite a lot of unaccompanied ‘world’ harmony vocal music as well as more rollicking sea shanties which I have hugely enjoyed singing with Anto.
I have also been adding to the mix some mid 1970s collaborations which have included Joe Zawinul and Walter Becker as well as other drifty music which I am loath to conveniently bracket together under ‘new classical’, ‘Jazz fusion’, ‘ambient’ or ‘new age’ labels as I think that somehow diminishes what are very listenable tracks.
I’ll leave it to Jayne to post some ‘Granny’s Attic’ if she feels like it… They are very good - do go and see them if you get the chance…"
Shallow Brown performed by Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith -
"Particularly on these steamy summer nights I find myself listening to radio three in the small hours. Sometimes it leads me on a wild goose chase. This is from one such search. Quite by accident whilst looking for something else that I had heard I discovered a track called ‘Dissolve’ by ‘Aldebrand The Reverberant’ but when I looked I couldn’t find it again - such is life… still this is pretty good too! Both of these are well worth playing at 2:45 AM. I advise minimal lighting and heavy rain sizzling outside…"
Erosion by Aldebrand The Reverberant -
Near Light Fyrsta (Living Room Songs) - Ólafur Arnalds
"Its funny how some weeks are jam packed. I'll have to leave 'Goldie and The Gingerbreads' and 'Reparata and the Delrons' until next week
Stay cool folks..."
"Here are my selections for the week with, as usual, best wishes sent to all RPMers."
Snake Oil by Steve Earl -
Love Will Keep Us Alive by Paul Carrack - "From a new album "The Country Side Of...." and of course includes this song which he co-wrote for Eagles."
Jealous Heart by Connie Francis - "Remembering Connie who provided much of the music that I used to fall over to whilst learning to roller skate in the late 50's on Saturday mornings."
"It's been a week with minimal music listening...here are just a couple of snippets..."
Song of the Swords by Hawkwind - "From the excellent mid 80s Chronicle of the Black Sword LP."
Curlew by Aartwork - "Yep, still in the car CD player..."
'Til Next Time...
