"So, this week..."
"...various songs from Iron Maiden's 1986 almost classic LP, Somewhere In Time, kept playing in my head (no idea why)...so a spin of the real thing had to be done. And "almost classic"...? Well yes, because it's let down for me by the overly long and frankly uninspiring final track, Alexander The Great. Perhaps Maiden were attempting another composition to match Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, closer of their previous album, Powerslave...who knows? Anyway 7 great tracks out of 8 ain't bad...and side one, in old parlance, is a blinder."
Wasted Years by Iron Maiden -
"This came on as I walked through a pub in York and actually made me stop to listen. So good."
Govinder by Kula Shaker -
"And an alternative version from Disc 2 of the Bootleg Series, Vol 7. Slightly more layed-back than the final LP version and I feel Bob doesn't seem to be straining his voice quite so much...and the drum sound is so much better on this recording. Should've kept it."
Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (Alternate Take) by Bob Dylan (No Direction Home: Bootleg Series Volume 7) -
