Welcome to the RPM Record Club Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 2nd August 2024. Here's this week's summer sound-sizzlers...over to...
"As we all know, music made by humans is always better then music made by machines. Three more proofs of that coming up... all from folks who fall into the "Golden Oldies" category."
Ahead of the Game by Mark Knopfler - "Mr. Knopfler is 74, and this is from his latest album."

Don't Get Me Started by Betty Lavette - "Ms. Lavette is 78, and this is from her album of last year. It features a superb backing band put together by Steve Jordan (67), augmented on this number by Steve Winwood (76) on Hammond B3."
The Border by Willie Nelson - "From his latest album. Mr. Nelson is 91 years young. This terrific song was written by Rodney Crowell (73) for his 2019 album "Texas," but I think Willie's version is even better than the original."

"Best wishes and good health to one and all,
Philip (67)."
"Thanks to all for last week's lovely tunes. Been listening to a lot of CCR which seems appropriate for the weather we've been having."
Out On The Side by Dillard and Clark -
Monument by Gene Parsons -
Take A Chance by Gib Guilbeau -

That's All Folks.
"Hi Everyone. Best wishes to you all."
Everything Goes by Graham Parker - "This is from an album that was recommended to me by a friend who knew I was a bit of a fan of GP and I must say that this release slipped under my radar. The collection (called The Official Vandelay Tapes) consists of b-sides, rarities, cover versions, outtakes etc.. Superb stuff."

White Honey by Graham Parker & The Rumour - "Prompted by the above track, I took the debut LP by Graham Parker & The Rumour off the shelf and popped it on the turntable. This is the opening track. (I've chosen this live version because it shows just what a great live band they were)."
Jungou by Ali Farka Toure - "Car Boot sale bargain of the week: The River by Ali Farke Toure for 20p.... on cassette!!!"

"Hi guys - three absolute classics this week, but you can't go wrong with this gold."
Right Next Door (Because of me) by Robert Cray - "Lots of brilliant Cray songs on this album, but this is the one that's been lodged in my brain this week."

Carey by Joni Mitchell - "Never could tire of this gem."

Losing my Religion by R.E.M. - "There are versions on YT with videos, including the 'official' one, but they simply distract from the lyrics and music."

"Bonne weekend, tout le monde."
"Hi folks. Here's my three. Two from my era of 90's house music, halcyon days, mainly spent in a daze of unofficial raves, off-our-heads nights and watching dawn's approach in random Scottish sites...+ latest from Laura Marling."
Dub Be Good To Me by Beats International -
Move Any Mountain by The Shamen -
Patterns by Laura Marling - "Her new album, Patterns in Repeat is out later this year - can't wait!"

"Cheers!"
"Greetings RPMers, here’s just three from the loads of performers we caught last weekend at Cambridge Folk Festival."
Repeal The Union by Mec Lir -
Open The Road by Leyla McCalla -
Energy Islands by FARA -
"I realised this week that it is 50 years since I first attended the Cambridge Folk Festival. The weather held as Jayne and I joined 13,998 other attendees to hear these tracks played live..."
Little Martha played by Jerry Douglas -
Jessica played by Larkin Poe -
Sprenglek by Erlend Viken Trio -
"...And to sample my first ever vegan hot dog!
You'll be pleased to hear that there is lots of Denim still evident! Have a great summer all!"
"Music listening this week was somewhat random in nature, but turned up these three instrumentals."
Virga by Yasmin Williams - "A new recording out by Yasmin Williams continuing the use of voice as started on her last recording 'Dawning' which featured Aoife O'Donnovan (ex Crooked Still), this time combining with indie folkers Darlingside. Very calming...but I must admit, I prefer her earlier compositions which had a bit more complexity and melodic interest. None the less, nice to have something new from Yasmin."
Speed The Plough performed by Steve Blake - "Looking to relearn the English trad tune of this name, I stumbled across this old time tune with the same title. Brilliant drive and rhythm, it's repetitive nature almost becomes musical meditation."
Pin Ball Swing by Iago Banet & The Swingtomatiques - "A new name to me, Iago is coming to play Helmsley Arts Centre just up road from us in a few months time. He seems to be making his name as a solo guitarist with three albums to his name so far. Debating whether to go to the gig, thought I'd check out some of his music and came across this Django influenced piece from an ensemble EP released in 2013."
'Til Next Time...
