Leapfrogged - outline

    • Lastagene - Genetic therapy technology company, "the future of the human race", "perfection by design". Management granted access to advanced therapy, made into spokes-people of their own 'design'.

    • Samuel (Sam, Sammy) - middle manager for Lastagene. We meet him after his first gene therapy, where he added musclature and an inch of height (to 5'10")

    • Alice - pre-med pharma rep. accidental Lastagene recruit. natural networker. pressure-free girlfriend. success flows to her without her trying. She also doesn't much care about the success, it simply is what is. (she's not materialistic)

    • basic story concept...

      • they meet while traveling. they hookup. it's a bit of star-crossed lovers as she whisks away to her life. he doesn't even know her name.

      • we learn about lastagene, it's technology, sales team incentives, and Sam's attempts to sell the technology, including some minor success

      • Sam is to attend a sales presentation from a new 'rising star'. He's shocked when it turns out to be Alice. Afterwords he seeks her out, she's thrilled to run into him again. He complements that she looks great, and she very directly passes some of it off on lastagene 'enhancements'.

      • She quickly surpasses Sam at Lastagene in notoriety, success, compensation, and 'latagene perks'. She doesn't care about the success, just being happy, offers to forgo more lasta-perks.

  • Setup

    • Sam is a sales manager for a genetics research company, Lastagene, as they develop a breakthrough new gene-therapy. At a medical conference, the Lastagene sales team gives a presentation promising people the chance to 'break through human limits' with some unbelievable (yet sciency) research results. The presentation gets a bunch of attention, and that night everyone at the bar is either talking about Lastagene, or wants to talk to Sam about it.

    • he's at an evening bar, being approached left and right as a spokesperson for Lastagene. He's on cloud nine, collecting business cards into a 'recruiting stack'. He spots an attractive young woman and introduces himself, presumptively assuming she wants to talk to him about Lastagene.

      • (what could you possibly want with lastagene, you're beautiful) She has no idea what he's talking about. She noticed all the medical talk and people wearing badges, assumed it was some medical geek fest.

    • Turns out she's not even at the conference, that she's a pharmaceutical rep for some random drug. She's smart but kinda laxidasical, having studied pre-med, but skipped med-school realizing she could make more in pharma just by 'having a pretty face'.

    • Alice is a pharmacudical rep, she hands him her pharma-rep card. "I can recite details from fourty-eight medical studies showing XYZ is more effective than competitor at treating ABC, but honestly I think they just pay me for my pretty face. If we leave brochures on the desk they never read them, so four years of pre-med and I'm basically just a pretty walking marketing brochure."

    • He's now self-concious about having focused only on her looks. Backpedals somehow. "sweetie, all day long older unattractive doctors leer at me. it's nice to be noticed by someone attractive for a change. So what is this whole lastagene thing about?" They banter on. She laughs at his jokes, casually complements him on his physique (he must work out). He gets all clinical, starts pitching Lastagene. She gets closer/flirty while acting 'mock impressed' with the lastagene pitch. Squeezes his muscle.

      • She and Sam hit it off, and after flirty conversation, retire together for a travel hookup (which we don't see. turns off he didn't even know her name).

  • new product rollout plans

    • Then we get a window into Lastagene's technology, when managers are offered a chance to experience the product. Sam gets a little more buff and an inch-taller. They explain that because of exorbant treatment costs, they are going direct to consumers. To do this, they are doing massive sales recruiting efforts, and creating an unusual bonus program with access to the technology at exceptionally reduced rates.

    • We see Sam struggle to get his first few sales: (a) macho scene with Sam trying to sell a body image product to a man who balks at the cost (b) older rich woman wants to look 25 again to get back at her ex-husband who ran away with someone younger. Sam has to explain the limits of the technology and put up with her awkward cougar flirting because he needs the sale. (c) young upcoming pop-star has a gorgeous body yet wants a bigger booty. Sam thinks she's nutz, as women would kill to have her figure. She 'needs it' to get her album to the top.

    • Hook up

      • Sam runs into Alice randomly in a hotel lobby. She's impressed with his lastagene improvements, and confesses she's just joined the team.

      • They flirt, hook up.

  • rat-race pecking order

    • Sam checks in with his coworkers, some men, some women, on their sales success. He's doing well, about middle of the pack. Talking with a close friend the nuances of how to milk more sales out of an existing account once they are hooked. One of their male coworkers has recognized revenue and is sporting a noticeable physical upgrade as a result. Girls flirt and compliment him, while the guys give him macho comradarie about the upgrades. Sam talks confidently about the upgrades he's planning when he can get them.

    • Sam checks in on his biggest client to date, the older woman. She's in a bikini and a veil, showing off her expensive and astounding body upgrades. She's frisky and direct, talking about how she's having more sex than she has in a decade. How she wishes she had this body when she was in her twenties. Then she talks about what she wants to do next, bring the same youthful vibrance to her face. He backpedals about limits in the technology, she flirts. "what is it going to take? maybe he'd like to take the She removes the veil, and her face and hair tell the story of her age and look "wrong" on her body. She challenges that certainly it's just a matter of money. How much will it cost to give her a youthful face. What will it take?

    • leapfrogged

      • rumors of a star salesperson coming to visit

      • when she arrives, Sam and Alice recognize eachother -- sort-of. She's been a top-sales person for a while and has taken much of her bonus in company product. She's several inches taller than him (6'3"?) and trim/tight/fit.

      • She excuses herself to give her speech, saying she'll find him afterwords. He assumes she was just being polite.

      • Her speech ensues.

      • Afterwords, as his friends are gushing about her, she surprisingly comes and finds him, "you don't mind if I borrow him do you?"

      • once she gets him away, she comes onto him pretty directly (like she has in the past), though it comes across a bit different now.
