وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ
"And We have indeed made the Qur'ân easy to understand and remember .. " (54:17)
This is my learning journey of the Arabic Language. Appending and amending of this document is on-going and may take many years.
Why learn Arabic?
It is the drive and motivation of the need to understand the Quran while reciting the ayaat.
Arabic Nahu = Arabic Grammatical rules.
> Putting the correct "harakat" or a combination of letters at the end of a "kalimah"(word) to form a meaning in a sentence.
eg. the same word for a "Muslim" (singular) can be =
مُسْــلِمٌ ، مُسْــلِمًا ، مُسْــلِمٍ
eg. the same word for many "Muslims" (plural) can be =
مُسْــلِمُونَ , مُسْــلِمِينَ
Each of the same word above gives a different meaning to the sentence that it is in.
اَلكَلِمَةُ هِيَ كُلُّ لَفْظٍ مُفْرَدٍ لَهُ مَعْنًى
A "Kalimah" كَلِمَةٌ is every single utterance لَفْظٌ (coming from the mouth which originates from the "makhraj" مَخْرَجٌ) giving a meaning.
Eg. by uttering "baytun" بَيتٌ once, the listener knows the meaning (i.e. a House).
It can be from a single letter. Example: قِ from the phrase :-
وَقِنَا عَذَابَ = and "save" us from torture.
A Kalimah كَلِمَةٌ (word) is either an :-
(1) اِسْمٌ Ism (Nouns, etc)
(2) فِعْلٌ Fi'il (Verbs)
(3) حَرْفٌ Harf. (particles)
الْكَلَمُ هُوَ الْجُمْلَةُ الْمُفِيدَةُ
Kalam (speech) كَلَمٌ = it is the complete & beneficial sentence.
The Qur'an is said as كَلَمُ اللَّهِ "Kalamu-llah" - the speech of Allah.
Several combinations between Ayah and Sentence (Jumlah Mufidah) in the Quran :-
1. An Ayah = 1 complete sentence.
2. Several Ayaat = 1 complete sentence.
3. 1 Ayah = several sentences.
If you cut a page from a Mushaf vertically into many strips, the sentences are broken (not complete & beneficial). Hence it is no longer considered as Kalam. That page is no longer part of the Qur'an. To discard a Mushaf, you can use a paper shredder.
In Asean region, the style of writing in the previous Mushafs printed in the 70s, 80s, 90s were not the same style of writing in the printed Mushafs of nowadays (year 2000 +). Many older people are confused when they recite using the new printed Mushafs.
The "Hamzah WaSol" ٱ letter was not written in the previous modern Printed Mushafs. They printed it as an Alif with a harakat (stroke) hard coded to it = اَ اِ اُ .
Whereas ٱ has no hard coded harakat (stroke) on it since the Harakat stroke will change in certain way.
The "Hamzah WaSol" was practised by the companions of the Prophet s.a.w in their recitations. Therefore the newly printed Mushafs nowadays follows the original style of recitation as practised by the companions of the Prophet s.a.w.
Learning Quran recitation with a Teacher: If you make a mistake in recitation of a kalimah in the Qur'an, it will change the intended meaning of the ayah and you have corrupted the grammar. That is why when you are at a learning stage of reciting the Qur'an, it must be in front of a Qur'an teacher.
Unfortunately, many Muslims assumed that they already know how to recite the Qur'an correctly without reciting in front of a Teacher.
