In general, all isms are "common"(general) unless you can prove that they are "proper"(specific).
Common Ism(indefinite noun)= Isim Nakirah نَكِرَة
Proper Ism(definite noun)= Isim Ma'rifah مَعرِفَة
eg. Ahmad, Makkah
eg. This, that, these, those..
"This computer" , "That boy" etc
eg. "Those who" cheated.
Ism MauSul don't give any meaning if there is no Verb after it.
ٱلَّذِينَ is plural but it is NOT jama' muzakkar salim.
"Al" cannot be together with a "tanween" ending:-
"The Muslim" = ٱلْمُسلِمُ ("A Muslim" = مُسلِمٌ )
"The book" = ٱلكِتَابُ ("A book" = كِتَابٌ )
المُضَافُ إِلَى مَعْرِفَةٍ
Eg.1 كِتَابُ مُحَمَّدٍ
If you just see the word كِتَابُ (A book) which has no tanween and has no "al" in front, look for the next word that it is paired with.
Ism Nakirah (A book) followed by Ism Ma'rifah (Muhammad) . The word "A book" then becomes proper "The book" (Ism Ma'rifah).
Meaning = The Book of Muhammad = The Book that belongs to Muhammad = Muhammad's book.
Eg.2
صِرَاطُ رَبِّكَ
صِرَاطُ = path
رَبِّ = master
كَ = your (attached pronoun)
Originally by itself صِرَاطُ and رَبِّ
"The path of the master of yours" (The path of your master)
Since a pronoun is always proper, hence the word "master" before it is also proper. When the word "master" is proper, hence the word "path" is also proper.
eg. Yaa Rojulu! يا رَجُولُ
يا = Ya Nida' "calling word"
جُولُ = Munada' ( without Tanween or "AL" )
Ism Nakirah ("Rojulu" رَجُولُ or "A Man") preceeded by a "calling word" يا ,
it becomes proper = Ism Ma'rifah
i.e You are calling that particular man.
A Munada' is Ism Ma'rifah.
NOTE: A Munada' becomes "ManSub" if it is a Mudhaf , eg.
رَبُّنَا becomes يَا رَبَّنَا
"robba" = is a Mudhaf , "naa" = is Mudhaf ilaih
( In our do'as, we recite "robbanaa" instead of "robbunaa. There is a "يَا" before "rabbanaa" but is not recited.)
يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ
"Abaa" = is a Mudhaf , "bakrin" = is mudhaf ilaih
