Hispanic Heritage Month

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Last month was about the celebration of the culture and heritage of the Hispanic community. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th in the United States every year. This celebration recognizes the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the history and achievements of the United States. While most Hispanics and Latinos celebrate Hispanic Heritage month, not everyone knows the origin of how it began.

How did the national celebration begin?
It all began in 1968 when President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation for the first official Hispanic Heritage Week. Then, in 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded it to a full-month celebration starting from September 15 to October 15. The reason it starts on September 15 is because that day is Independence Day for many Latin American countries.
Hispanic Heritage month counts as a celebration of all the accomplishments and influences of the Hispanic community in food, laws, movies, music, and many other categories. Hispanic contribution has been deeply rooted in the economy, politics, and society. It's important we celebrate this month as we acknowledge and recognize the significant contributions Hispanic/Latino Americans have made in the United States. During Hispanic Heritage Month, there are a wide range of activities to choose from to celebrate the culture including concerts, parades, runs, festivals, art exhibits, and more.

This month is a wonderful time for celebrating our diverse heritage and exploring our roots. It's an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the unique contributions and achievements of the Hispanic and Latino communities. It's important that we shine a light on the many voices and experiences that make Hispanic culture so rich and vibrant. We hope you enjoyed Hispanic Heritage Month!
