Teachers' Hobbies Outside of School

By Valentina Omotosho ('23)

While in school, students daydream about going home and participating in the activities they love such as sports and other hobbies. From a student’s perspective, teachers go to school, give them homework, go home, grade papers and sleep. But that is far from the truth; teachers have hobbies too!

Teachers do a lot more than just teach, they have lives outside of school while dedicating themselves to teaching because they genuinely love it. Teacher appreciation week runs from May 3rd to May 7th and was created to appreciate teachers for all they do. Hopefully, students took some time that week to email or inform your teachers of how appreciated they are and if not, it is not too late!

Click each drop-down below to see what activities your favorite teachers do outside of the classroom!

Mr. Fevola (History)

“I actually hated cooking before, then I became a good cook and I love to cook now, also because my kids help me,” said Mrs. Madden.

Mrs. Kwietniak (Spanish)

Tennis

“I just loved the sport as it kept me in shape and was also a way to bond with my cousins,” said Mrs. Kwietniak.

Ms. Sassone (Math)

Mr. Carey (Assistant Teacher)

Coaching Baseball

Mrs. Westbrook (Art)

Fishing and gardening are special hobbies for Mrs. Westbrook. Her dad taught her to fish when she was young and they would always spend every summer together in the Adirondacks fishing for trout in the Ausable River. She loves gardening because she learned to garden with her grandparents. These hobbies hold a special place in her heart.
