Cobra Kai Kicking Off Season 5!

By Christina Muttavanchery ('23)

It has been an insane journey to get here. Season 5 of Cobra Kai has hit Netflix screens all over the world. The season includes 10 binge-worthy episodes, all released on September 9th, 2022. This nostalgic show was meant for fans of the Original 1984, 1986, and 1989 movies but is now bringing on board a whole new category of young fans. Personally, I finished the entire season in one day because it was that amazing!

The show is a sequel to the Karate Kid franchise. It follows the children and their friends and enemies, as well as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. While the kids may have their own drama, their parents are also very much involved. This season pick up on the cliffhanger of season 4 in which Miguel leaves to find out more about his father. Then we find out that John Kreese is outsmarted by the villainous Terry Silver.

The bromance that we had originally expected between John Kreese and Terry Silver takes a completely different route when viewers see that Terry Silver takes complete control of Cobra Kai. But Daniel LaRusso is aware that he and Johnny Lawrence cannot handle this maniac alone and thus recruits a character from the classic Karate Kid movie, Chozen Toguchi! The three of them work together to keep the community of the San Fernando Valley safe.

Once, fighting towards the death with each other, Daniel and Chozen team up to handle the new criminal. The comical aspect of the series helps keep you in check that the whole basis of this all is about a karate dojo! Nevertheless, this series is action-packed and keeps you on the edge of your seats. Throughout the series, we see plenty of familiar faces from the original franchise, and heartwarming reunions and compromises between the adults and teens.
