Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer's Striking Kicks!

Sports are back for the year and it seems like the varsity soccer teams are making sure to remain on top! During the previous season, the boys' team made it to the quarter-finals. However, their season ended there with a score of 0-3 against Scarsdale. Similarly, the girl’s team ended their last season with a tough game in the section semifinals against Arlington, where they lost 1-3.
The 2022 head captain of the boy’s team is Gabriel Garcia (‘23), and his accompanying co-captains are Johnny Marin (‘23), and Joaquin Marin (‘23). This seems to be a great decision because presently, the boys' varsity soccer team is on a 10-game winning streak! Their senior day took place on October 8th and the boys took another win against Arlington; this being their 10th win. Currently, they are ranked #2 in Section 1 AA. One of the captain’s Gabriel Garcia (‘23) and his teammate Owen Canjura (‘24), have both been selected as a choice for Lohud player of the week on two separate occasions. Congrats to both of them!

For the girls' team, the captains are Gianna Piscopiello, Sydney Saponaro, Gillian Alessi, and Allison Dwyer. Their team consists of a majority of underclassmen rather than upperclassmen. Their wins to losses are 7-5, and they’re currently ranked #4 in Section 1 AA. Losses aside, the girls have been doing an amazing job climbing up in rankings. This month, one of their own, Gianna Piscopiello was selected as a choice for Lohud player of the week!
The continuous support for the boy’s soccer team was represented by their families on their senior day. The girls have recently had their senior day, and it was another joyous occasion! Up to this point both NR soccer teams have been doing their best and will, no doubt, continue their hard work to bring in more wins! We wish them good luck for the rest of their season!
