Look on the Bright Side!

"How does it feel to be back in school?"

This was a question I got from almost every teacher this year. Many have mixed emotions about this new school year. Out of curiosity, I asked one of my friends that same exact question and got one word: horrible. On the other hand, another friend of mine, Abey Alex (‘23) said he enjoyed and missed the crowd and massive traffic in the hallways. “I missed getting pushed and shoved around.”

I don’t know about you, but that isn’t one of my favorite parts of being back. I think this school year has plenty of good to offer, most of which we aren’t thinking about. Although this might be a stretch, I assume most of us, at one point, dreaded going back to school. Well, guess what? We’re already back, and we should definitely make the most of it! Here are a few things I believe makes this year better than last!

Already, NR has kicked off the season with our first football game! What a change from last year! I can’t speak on behalf of everyone, or myself, but my friends enjoyed it. Brian Dong (‘23), a Varsity Football player, remarked on the change in the bleachers, “It was incredible to have such a big crowd.” In this new school year, you can go to games or other school events with as many people as you’d like! NR’s spirit is back and better than ever!

One of the biggest things Freshmen (current Sophomores) were skimped out on because of COVID was their first high school experience. Stepping into the high school on that first day is an out-of-body experience that you’ll never forget! Although our Sophomores didn’t get to experience it first hand, they were able to get their taste this year! Better late than never, I say! I am so happy that this year, all of us were able to soak up more of our high school experience. It’s only four years, you know, and they go by fast!

Now, before you get the wrong idea, when I say relationships, I don’t mean romantic relationships. You can form a relationship with teachers and classmates you don’t usually speak to. Being in school allows you to communicate more with other students leading to possible friendships. You also see and speak to the teacher more often, and they see you too, not a ceiling. We’re able to be more intimate in our relationships with one another, something we were robbed of last year during COVID times.
