Girls Lax is Back!

By Megan Macmillan ('22)

North Rockland Girls Varsity Lacrosse team is back and ready to win! Being in the middle of a pandemic, we are simply glad to play with each other again and hope for a season this year. Between last March and now, the world has completely changed. Sitting in classrooms last year hearing about the Coronavirus, we never would have thought it would affect us this much-I didn't even think it would reach us! As soon as we started hearing about schools closing, people losing jobs, and sports seasons being canceled, we immediately worried about lacrosse.

Last season was sad for everyone. We put so much training and effort into preparing for last season, and then it was taken from us. It was depressing to hear that news, especially for the seniors. Not only was their season canceled, but it was their last year on the team. Unfortunately, some of them are never going to play lacrosse again. Our untimely end made us feel like our hard work and dedication was all for nothing. Not to mention, we also expected to be a very successful team, and now we lost our graduated teammates.

"I'm really excited for this season. After putting in all the hard work offseason last year, I feel we are more motivated than ever to get back on the field."

-Senior Katie LaCour ('21)

"Considering how the spring unraveled last year, even having the opportunity to play this year makes this season special. We owe it to the seniors from last year to enjoy the time. We are preparing for whatever this spring brings us and to treat each opportunity [as] more valuable than the one before."

- Head Coach Borchers

Through incorporating masks and social distancing into our practices, we can play again.  That being said, the team can't wait for what this upcoming season has in store for us. No matter what the season looks like, we just want to make the most of it. With last season being canceled, we lost a lot of motivation. Quarantine had us all constantly sleeping, lying down, and being lazy. Now, not only do we have to get in shape, but we also have to make sure our stick skills are on point.

Since we are currently in pre-season training, we are putting our lack of motivation aside and attending every practice. We owe it to the seniors from last year. We are conditioning our bodies, lifting weights, and working on our skills. What the season will look like is still to be determined. We are beyond excited to get back on the field and hope that this year will be a good one!
