Cardi B and Offset's McDonald's Meal Review

By Valentina Omotosho ('23)

Filling the bellies of over 69 million people every day, McDonald’s is a fast food restaurant that is widely known to many. From delicious cheeseburgers to slushies and McFlurries, you can get just about anything on their menu. Operating in over 100 countries with about 38,000 locations, it is not surprising to note that the restaurant is significantly popular among many as families, friends, and lovers gather to celebrate memorable events.

McDonald’s is quite popular, yeah. But what’s even more well-known are the celebrities of our world today. From singers to actors to models and comedians, celebrities are extremely famous as they emulate affluence and a great deal of fortune. Part of such a lifestyle, however, entails advertisement and promotion to boost their success. For this reason, a lot of celebrities host shows, star in commercials for major brands, and partake in activities that draw the audience’s attention. This is typically known as celebrity endorsements and although it is an effort to increase the celebrity's popularity, companies utilize this facet of society to market their goods and services. In this case, McDonalds could be utilizing the fame and popularity of Cardi B and Offset, since they are widely known to boost their consumer rates. This is possible as people would now tend to buy the item being marketed (cheeseburger, fries and a soda) not for the quality of the food but rather for the celebrity named attached to it. Consumers have to be careful then when purchasing goods and services that are being promoted through celerbrity endorsements as companies could prioritize their desire for sale and profit over the quality of the food being produced.

Speaking of celebrity endorsements, pretty much everyone has heard of Cardi B as she is the producer of some of the biggest song hits such as WAP and Bodak Yellow. Recently, she and her husband Offset, another popular American rapper collaborated with McDonald’s and released their own meal known as the "Cardi B and Offset McDonald’s Meal." To be honest, it's been a hot minute since I ate at McDonald’s but the meal seemed appetizing and promised to be delicious so I decided to give it a try, below is my review!

To start, the meal included a cheeseburger coupled with Coke for Cardi B and a Quarter Pounder with cheese coupled with Hi-C Orange for Offset. For dessert, it included a side of fries and a warm apple pie. It seems the meal was made for two and looking back, I most definitely should have invited a friend! I started with the Quarter Pounder without cheese and to be entirely frank, it was just a regular burger that didn’t need a name of a celebrity attached to it. Something that put me off was that it felt as though McDonald’s was being quite stingy with the serving size, the burgers had mini sliced pickles and onions and barely any ketchup.

The fries on the other hand were as good as they could get since the meal was not served with a side of sauce and I can only speak for myself, but the sauce on the side could make or break a meal! Nevertheless, it was pretty good. I moved on to the dessert and I had actually never had apple pie, some might say that a McDonald’s apple pie should not be the first of its kind I tried but I did! I must say that it most definitely is a dessert that requires an acquired taste as the first bite engaged senses I never knew I had, to be honest, I just about spat it out before I decided to give it a second try. Slowly it began to taste a bit appetizing but it definitely took a while to get tasty. The drinks I would say were the best part of the meal as you most likely could not go wrong. I had a lemonade and an Orange soda, and what's more to say it tasted just as one would expect of a drink from Mcdonald's, refreshing for just the moment.

In all, the meal honestly didn't heavily disappoint, as I had my expectations set from the get-go. It was quite astounding however that there was no effort made to make the meal specialized for the celebrities either by making their own sauce or unique ingredients. Nonetheless, if one was looking to have a simple outing with a friend or a solo night (be sure to have an empty stomach beforehand), the meal would do just the trick!
