The Best and Worst TikTok Dances
By Valentina Omotosho ('23)
TikTok: what comes to mind when you hear the word? Dance, trends, and Gen-Z of course. TikTok, as we all know today, has become one of the most popular apps on the Internet, propelling upcoming singers, dancers, and even the average teenager to fame. Each one of us might have spent hours trying to perfect that one dance trend that’s blowing up, but even if you have not, you likely catch a glimpse of various teens referencing the app in their daily lives. We also can’t exclude the millennials and adults since you find people of all ages on the app.
Now, what has drawn the attention of people to this app created by the Chinese company ByteDance? Some people, till' this day, speculate that the app interferes with people’s lives due to its loose privacy security, while others are indifferent, as they are on the app for fun. So what propelled it to fame? Well, dances and trends, for sure, are among the various reasons. After researching the Top 10 Tiktok songs, here are my rankings from the best to the worst:
☆YRN - Remix just radiates so much energy, yet it is still so relaxing. If you are looking for songs that lift your soul then this is definitely the one! Did I also forget to mention that the dance is so easy, anyone can do it!
Copines - Aya Nakamura surely makes you want to move and dance with its French, no matter your mood. Its upbeat tone and high energy make you feel light and airy at the same time, and the dance that goes along with it is so complex yet fun!
Heartbreak Anniversary - Giveon is quite a sad one, but for some reason, it just captures your attention so much. The accompanying dance is addicting and you will catch yourself doing it with everyone and everywhere.
Here's my rendition of Heartbreak Anniversary!
4. Dancing in the Moonlight - Domino Remix - Grab that special person—whoever they may be—girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend, mom, dad—and just dance away with this song. You will definitely have a great time, but be warned, as the dance does require one to be quite flexible.
5. Adderall - Popp Hunna is a personal favorite, and to be honest, I just love this song. I can’t seem to find a reason why; is it the beat? The dance? I have no idea, but it's a great song that captures one’s attention.
6. Telapatía - Kali Uchis is one to definitely make you want to dance and the lyrics are enticing; you can catch yourself trying to sing along, especially to the Spanish verse.
7. Up Down - T-Pain comes in seventh because the dance is just so fun to do and the beat is sure one to be in your head for days. The words included in the lyrics might be quite inappropriate for some which is why it comes in seventh, although the beat makes you not focus much on the words.
8. Hadel Ahbek - Issam Alnajjar transports you back to the easygoing and serene days of early childhood when things were so peaceful and innocent. The number of videos, memes, and dances that accompany this song definitely makes the song very versatile. This song is, however, definitely not for those who like upbeat songs and a surge of energy.
9. Bestfriend - Saweetie is great song for you and your best friend to dance and vibe to; you could even come up with a signature dance! Although, it isn’t really versatile in the lyrics, as some friends may not want to dance to the beat.
10. Bongo Cha Cha Cha - Catherine Valente is honestly amazing and a variety of creative and funny videos goes well with it, however, it comes last because, to be honest, it does become quite repetitive and could make one annoyed after listening to it for a while.
