· Client lies prone on the table with the iliac crest in line with edge of table. The upper body is supported by straight arms prior to testing beginning.
· The lower body is secured to the table and client is then asked to cross their arms to fold them across the chest and isometrically maintain a horizontal spinal position for as long as possible.
· Test is ceased if no difficulty is had after 240 seconds. Time less than 176 seconds in males may predict back pain within the next year; where times of more than 198 seconds in males predicts absence of back pain.
· Make note of compensation, fatigue, etc.
