The clinic is open 5 days a week:
Monday – Wednesday 10am to 7pm
Tuesday – Thursday 8am to 5/6pm
Friday 7am to 12pm (variable)
Clinic holds fortnightly training sessions between 8:20am and 10am on Wednesdays.
Students are expected to complete a full-time work week while on placement. These hours will be provided to you by your supervisor. Additional hours of exposure may be available to you however these are not mandatory. If you are having any issues with the working hours please discuss this immediately with your supervisor.
You will be required to perform study and revision outside of your student placement. Please ensure you allocate appropriate time and resources to accomplish this.
Students are expected to attend and contribute to all fortnightly training sessions while on placement at this clinic.
This clinic is very busy and to optimize service delivery it is important to understand the clinic structure and who you may need to address for concerns or queries.

Physiotherapists manage the physiotherapy service delivery. Exercise physiologist predominately work on providing rehabilitation programs for Workcover, Private, NDIS and Medicare clients. Exercise scientists provide support to our suite of occupational health services. Receptionists manage the administration for service delivery this includes bookings, phone management, etc.
You will find a reference manual for this practice on the clinic Hub. On your first day we will provide you access to this. This manual outlines the major clinic procedures and policies. It also includes procedures for pre-employment testing.
If you are unsure of a policy or procedure, check this resource first. If you cannot find the information you seek please ask your supervisor.
This clinic provides on-site physiotherapy services to mine sites and workplace assessments on a periodic basis.
While placed at this clinic it is expected that you act as an ambassador of this clinic with all employees you encounter whether that be on-site or within the clinic. It is essential you conduct yourself professionally at all times.
If you are allocated with onsite experience you will be expected to comply with all the policies and procedures of that facility. If you are unsure of the correct action it is essential that you seek guidance and direction. You may be required to undergo an induction to participate in onsite services. You will be expected to comply with the safety requirements for personal protective equipment while placed onsite.
It is essential that with mining companies you maintain appropriate contact with Occupational Health Nurses / Safety Advisors. Please refer to the clinic manual and your supervisor for further information and assistance.
Your supervisor will provided you with a physical orientation to this clinic which will include:

Your supervisor will provide you with a basic familiarization of our computerized booking system and computer programs and resources.
You will be provided with a surface tablet to ensure appropriate service delivery standards. You may take this home during your placement however please ensure it is kept in a secure place (do not leave in your car, etc) and you bring it to work every day. The tablet is to be used for work product only.
Your supervisor will also familiarize you with our standard assessment and treatment forms which you will be using through the course of your placement. These are electronic.
Pre-employment forms vary and you should ensure familiarization with these (check your schedule) the day prior.
We assume that you have come prepared for this placement. As such we assume that you have the following knowledge as a 4th year student:
Anatomy and physiology including muscles, nerves and function.
Basic foundations in physiotherapy assessment including subjective assessment, objective assessment (Observation, ROM, Strength, Special Tests, Palpation)
Understanding of basic and common musculoskeletal presentations for the spine and extremity (i.e. Rotator cuff tear, Achilles tendonitis, MCL injury, disc, spondylolitheses, etc)
Basic foundations in physiotherapy treatment and best practice of management including manual therapy, exercise prescription, hydrotherapy, etc.
Basic foundations in physiotherapy clinical reasoning.
Safe practice principles during patient interactions including assessment, treatment, manual handling, electrotherapy, etc.
Understanding of SOATAP/SOAPIER note taking.
Understanding and use of special questions and regional specific questions, as well as the verbal and physical indications which may indicate red flags and yellow flags.
Understanding and ability to undertake professional and ethical work.
This clinic’s primary caseload is musculoskeletal in nature. This may take the form of private individuals with injuries, sports related injuries and work-related injuries.
We also perform occupational physiotherapy health services in the form of pre-employment musculoskeletal and fitness and Functional Capacity Screenings. These are essentially musculoskeletal in nature. Within this clinic clinicians have advanced training in Pilates, Pain Management, Women’s Health, and Occupational Health. If these areas interest, you it is important you advise us to ensure you gain some exposure to these areas.
We do offer support to NDIS clients. This can include paediatric, geriatric, neurological disorders.
Over the course of this placement, you should be exposed to a variety of peripheral, spinal, and soft tissue conditions. You may also be exposed to post-orthopaedic conditions. Neuromuscular conditions may arise within these exposures.
You may also be exposed to, assist with or assume care on complex cases.
You are expected to gain exposure in a wide range of musculoskeletal treatment options. The emphasis within this clinic is on manual therapy and exercise prescription. Adjuncts to this may also be used (i.e. strapping, splinting, acupuncture, etc).
You will be expected to liaise with other health care professionals and key stakeholders in the course of this placement (i.e. insurance companies, employers, etc).
