Progressive loading is performed in a variety of tasks such as:
Loads are progressed as per testing protocol or gradually where safe maximal lifts are to be performed.
Initial lift is always performed with minimal weight to ensure proper technique. Correction and education is provided on any faults prior to commencing test keeping in mind stance, posture, torque, leverage, timing and pacing.
Cuing and correction are provided as load is added. If client is unable to perform load after 2 consecutive corrections, testing is ceased and the previous load is considered to be their safe maximal lift or carry.
Endurance lifts are generally performed with approximately 50% of the safe maximal lift and occur over a time allotment.
Progressive intermittent lifting evaluation is at time asked for on pre-employment tests. This is typically done for floor to bench and bench to shoulder lifts, but may include other lifts such as a deadlift.
"Would you be able to perform that lift every hour?"
"Would you be happy to lift a heavier weight?"
