Treatment Management Plans (TMPs)

The TMP is an important communication tool. It provides clarity about future treatment options for workers who are likely to require more than 10 consultations. It also provides insurers and self-insurers with a mechanism to determine whether the treatment and costs are reasonable under the workers’ compensation legislation.

Where a worker is likely to require more than 10 consultations the TMP should be completed between the 2nd and 3rd treatment. This proactive approach encourages therapeutic alliance with all parties and establishes a open and transparent framework for communication.

Our TMPs should align with the 5 principles in the Clinical Framework of Service Delivery which has been shown to deliver optimal recovery and return to work outcomes for injured workers. The principles are:

• measure and demonstrate the effectiveness of treatment
• adopt a biopsychosocial approach
• empower the injured person to manage their injury
• implement goals focused on optimising function, participation and return to work
• base treatment on best available research evidence

Treatment plans should include:

• Contact details (Worker's Name, DOB, Claim No, Occupation, Employer)
• Clinical assessment:
  • DOI
  • date of initial consult
  • number of consults to date and/or number of consults since surgery (if applicable)
  • physio's diagnosis
  • area(s) being treated
  • screening tools (outcome measure - include date of adminstration, score, interpretation of results, and changes if this is a subsequent TMP)
  • functional measures (i.e. lifting, reaching, overhead work, sitting, standing, walking, pushing-pulling, bending, twisting, squatting, driving, etc)
  • biopsychosocial factors identified that may impact RTW and recommendations in addressing them
• current work status (hours/duties)
• RTW status
  • details of progression
    • Your opinion if the worker is likely to return to their pre-injury duties (Yes/No/Unsure). If Yes, provide anticipated timeframe. If No/Unsure provide comment.
  • Proposed management plan
    • consults
    • exercise based program
    • implementation of education/self-management strategies
  • cc to key stakeholders (employer, doctor, etc).

Once completed please email reception to have it sent to the insurer and for billing to occur. Reception in turn will also put it on the spreadsheet in X:drive - scans folder for referencing. If you have not heard back within 4 working days then please make contact with the insurer to discuss the status. Please document contact within Nookal and on the spreadsheet.

TMPs attract a fee. Please note that there is a maximum 3 TMPs and/or progress reports. Additional plans or reports will require approval.
