The following criteria requires a resting 12 lead ECG be performed:
Requested on the Pre-employment Medical
Systolic BP >160
Diastolic BP >100
Candidate over the age of 50 years old with co-morbidities
Irregular heart rhythm
Active chest pain or chest tightness/discomfort
History of MI / Angina
Practitioner’s clinical judgement deems necessary
Some PEMs will require an ECG to be performed.
Edan SE 601C ECG Quick Guide
Step 1: Hold On/Off button located below green light
Step 2: Select “Patient” to enter client details
Step 3: Attach ECG Leads
Note if client has chest hair you will need to use disposable electric clipper to rid the area of hair. Electrode placement site needs to cleaned with alcohol swab and allowed to dry prior to placement of ECG dot.

Step 4: Perform ECG
I am going to perform an ECG now which will measure the electrical activity of your heart. This test is painless and it is important that during this test you lie still. It only takes a few seconds to complete. (Ensure candidates arms are positioned by their side and legs are not crossed.)
Press Print/Stop to run ECG
Step 5: Download ECG
To download to USB - select >>> arrow icon at bottom of screen
Select "File" to download
Tap on client details and press “Select”
Select “Export”
Remove USB when download is successful.
Step 6: Transfer to computer and Print
Open file on USB and rename (Last name, First name (date of exam) ECG))
Save as pdf and print.
Step 7: Once printed and saved as pdf, delete file from USB and return USB to ECG machine port.
