back hatch

8'' 12''

For this project I photographed the inside of the trunk of my car. I used my Nikon D5500. For this assignment I was asked to make a portrait of myself without myself included. I chose my car as the subject as I have lots of personal and telling belongings inside. My process was pretty simple. I came up with the idea in art class (before Teo) and made a little sketch of the scene I envisioned. Then a few mornings later, I opened up the back hatch of my car, found a strong point of symmetry by focusing on the dice hanging on my rear view mirror and the rest is history. The project evolved from a sketch to a pretty close rendition of the sketch.

The contrast of the photo creates emphasis on the inside of the car and the central composition is pleasing to the eye. Their is not much linear story letting to this photo but it's a revealing photo, showing what some of my passions are. I'm proudest of of the central composition, and one thing I would change is the lighting, it's somewhat drab.
