oil stick observation

My idea was to create a realistic observational peace in terms of form but not color. I wanted to emphasize the way the lights affected the landscape. I also planned to focus on layering which worked well.

I used oil pastels and my finger to blend colors and create atmosphere by smudging.

I started with the most blue trees in the background. I then worked forwards in layers adding closer trees and the lights and last of all the light shining from the light poles and the red track in the very foreground. The sky is left bright white to create contrast and depth within the trees, for example in some places you can see the white sky peaking through the trees creating a sense of transparency.
