medium blue underglaze

For this project I made a design and then transferred that design to a tile with underglaze on it. I transferred the design by pressing on the paper with a pencil while it was on top of the tile. I then carved the transferred design away using carving tools. My fish was free floating before I added in the wave border. This serves to take up dead space and heightens the aquatic theme. I used larger lines for more important shapes such as the outline of the fish and main shape of waves to add emphasis.

I am extremely happy with the way this turned out, the white and blue contrast and create a light ocean feel. My favorite parts are the fins on top of the fish and the bubbles. This was my first time using these carving tools in clay and next time I would go slower to get cleaner lines.
