Seal swinging on a swing

(1) To complete this project I used a pencil (#2 graphite) for the seals body and various markers for the ball and the scrunchie. For the tree branch and the swing seat I used colored pencils. 2) First off I started out very simple with a regular pencil to get all the shapes of the seal swing and branch acurite. I then added color to the ball, branch and swing seat. I defined some of the lines with darker pencil. 3) My project started out just as a seal but I needed to make the squiggle that is now part of the swing and the branch into something.

The squiggle drawing started out being just a line. the seal is a clear example of shape, as it has a strong outline, the ball on the seals nose is also a shape. To make certain aspects of the drawing pop, I added color to the ball, scrunchie and branch. I used value to add depth to the seal and ball. the shading in the ball is somewhat sloppy, I could have spent more time blending the markers. The pattern I used for leaves was a good alternative to drawing every individual leaf, I added depth to them by using multiple colors of pencils. The curved lines under the swing indicate movement of the swing. In the future I think it would be cool to make these lines more bold. maybe even a color (yellow?).

1) The idea of this drawing is prompted by the idea of sircus seals balancing balls on their noses. It's a comical scene, a seal with a ball nose on it's nose; and to add a swing makes it even more funny. It's meant to be a silly drawing. 2) I am a fun and relaxed person. I think the same fonimential ideas are portrayed through this drawing. 3) I am proudest of the flippers of my seal (hands), I think they came out well and you can see the seals right flipper as well which is a fun detail. 4) After I had finished the seal I wasn't sure what the rest of the squiggle was going to be, I overcame this by giving myself some time to think outside the box. By looking at the lines in different ways I saw the branch and swing seat. from there I worked with it until I was happy with the outcome.
